Best Tweaks of the Week 2/27 - 3/4
Here are the best jailbreak creations for the week of February 27th until today, March 4th as per the opinion of our staff.
1. Aloud - $1.99
Aloud is a new jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Ori Kadosh that allows you to hear your notifications from across the room – it announces the message as a whole and who sent it, which makes it easy to discern who’s trying to contact you even when you aren’t looking at your iDevice’s screen. Aloud includes deep settings configurations, which allow you to choose how you are notified, which applications notify you, and the ability to announce time, date, and more. You will also find the options to control speaking speed and volume.
2. SpeakEvents - $1.99
SpeakEvents is a new jailbreak tweak by iOS developer K3A, which was made before Aloud with the same thought in mind. The difference between the two tweaks has to do with the level of customization. Aloud has much more customization, but SpeakEvents has a more relaxed speaking diction, which sounds less like a robot. SpeakEvents can announce the time to you every hour on the hour and will tell you your battery percentage when you disconnect your iDevice from a charger. It will be very handy for you if you are hard at seeing and can't read the small text in the notification banners.
3. SMSmileys - FREE
SMSmileys is a new free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Sam Stone that allows you to have your text-based (ASCII) smiley faces automatically converted to iOS emojis when you are using the Messages application. The tweak works with both SMS and iMessage on all iDevices, making it so you don’t have to enable the emoji keyboard from the keyboard preferences to type real faces. Unfortunately, SMSmileys does not work throughout all iOS applications like Notes, Twitter, and other emoji-supporting applications.
4. ActionSlider for Notification Center - 99¢
ActionSlider for Notification Center is a new jailbreak widget by iOS developer Merlin Mao that offers a control panel at your fingertips with the easy and intuitive interface of a slider that can be slid in different locations to invoke different actions. The slider is capable of up to four different actions ranging from taking a screenshot, to killing background applications, to showing the App Switcher’s iPod controls. ActionSlider is the pro version of WeeCloseApps for Notification Center, which is free with less features.
5. Plugication - FREE
Plugication is a new free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer thekirbylover that allow your music to start playing as soon as you plug your headphones or speakers into your iDevice’s headphone jack. The idea behind this tweak was to make on-the-go music listening much easier. When the headphones are unplugged while you are listening to music, the music playing is paused. This tweak aims to do the opposite of that and is great if you accidentally unplug your sound devices. It is compatible with all kinds of music applications including Spotify, Grooveshark, and Pandora – not just Apple's stock Music application.
