[Review] WeeLyrics - Display Lyrics in Notification Center
How would you like to have your song lyrics displaying in Notification Center?
Do you listen to a lot of music? Yes? Do you spend a lot of time in Notification Center? No? Then here's a reason to; you can view your song lyrics of your currently playing song in your Notification Center with a brand new third party widget dubbed WeeLyrics by iOS developer DjKira. It will set you back 99¢ to get it, but the interface is pretty nice looking, and the lyric fetching is automatic.
It works like this: you start listening to a song in your iPod library, and suddenly WeeLyrics knows that you are listening to a song. The next time that you open your Notification Center, you will have a new widget with scrollable text that displays the lyrics of the song that is currently playing or last playing. As soon as you start listening to a new song, the lyrics will change the to the new song that you begin playing. There is no reason to spend painful hours adding lyrics to your songs through iTunes, because WeeLyrics uses an Internet connection whether it be Wi-Fi or cellular data to pull the lyrics of your song from the Web.
After you install WeeLyrics, it won't be in your Notification Center immediately. One of the things that many people forget after installing a third party widget from Cydia is that they need to go into their Notification settings in the Settings application and drag the third party widget into the 'In Notification Center' section of widgets. Normally, there are two different sections, "In Notification Center" and, "Not In Notification Center." However, if you have IntelliScreenX installed, there will be three sections, and the last section puts any widgets that you drag into it into the top shelf that you will have to scroll to access. WeeLyrics is compatible with the IntelliScreenX top shelf too. The Notification settings are illustrated in the screenshot below:
In the first image of this review, you see WeeLyrics. The text is nicely centered into the little cell that it's put into and the cell is a decent size. It's not overpowering, not too small, and not too big. It's just right so that you can read a good hunk of your lyrics and scroll through with your finger when you want to move through the words.
Since WeeLyrics uses an Internet connection, you should be careful of its use on 3G or Edge. If you listen to a lot of music, that data can add up because WeeLyrics has to search for the Web Site that it uses and then download the lyrics. To me, that isn't a significant amount of data, however if you are on one of the lower-tier data plans, you might want to conserve as much data as possible. So this is something to keep in mind and be wary of.

Very nice tweak. I added it to the IntelliscreenX top shelf so if the iPod isn't playing you don't see a blank box in your notifications.

Not in real time. Have to refresh NC to display the current/now playing song. And in my case, when run ipod/music via activator or scrolling Board plug-in it freezes
