[Review] Lingual - Make Siri Translate to Other Languages
A new plugin allows Siri to make language translations for you!
Do you remember yesterday's introduction for AssistantExtensions? It's arguably the most useful tweak every designed for Siri and probably will continue to be the most useful tweak ever designed for Siri for the upcoming future because it lets developers use its framework to build extensions for Siri so that Siri can do more stuff than it already can! Long enough sentence? Whew. Now let's try translating it to another language. Wait; you mean typing that all out again? No; let's use Siri instead!
With a new plugin that was released dubbed Lingual by iOS development team CodeThemed, (Mazalthan - Design, and TheNickF - Development) you can make Siri translate whatever you want her to translate, into several different languages. The developer states that it supports over thirty different languages. Moreover, there are no icons added to the home screen and there are no settings to configure for this plugin. You install it, respring, and suddenly Siri now understands how to translate languages. I bet none of you have ever learned thirty or more languages that fast; have you? Siri, you sure are amazing.
To use Lingual, you need to have a phrase or word that you want to translate. After you have figured out what you want to translate, you begin launching Siri and talking to her, "Siri, translate insert content here to insert language here." Or, you can say, "Siri, what is insert content here in insert language here?" Once you ask Siri how to say something in another language, such as 'hello how are you?' in Spanish (as shown in the screenshot above), Siri will cleverly show you the output that you were asking for. The interface looks nice too.
Lingual supports all of the following languages:
- Chinese (simplified + traditional)
Please note that installing Lingual does use AssistantExtensions as a dependency. So it must be installed, or else it will be installed when you attempt to install Lingual. Another thing is that you must be running an iOS 5 device to Siri because you are either using the legitimate Siri on an iPhone 4S or you are using some kind of port which is only compatible with iOS 5. Lingual does work with Siri ports. I think that this plugin is a great addition to the family of Siri plugins which were introduced yesterday such as searching YouTube for specific title words and having intimate conversations with Siri. I highly recommend this to any jailbroken Siri users. Grab it while it's hot!
