[Review] CamSlideshow - Replace iPad 2 Slideshow Button With A Camera Button

One of iOS 5's nice features... isn't on the iPad.
With the release of iOS 5 last year, one of the great new features of it was to be able to access our Camera application from the lock screen by double-pressing the home button and then tapping on that camera button. Unfortunately, that was only the case with the iPhone and the iPod touch (where cameras are applicable). iPad owners who upgraded to iOS 5 don't have the camera button, instead, they have the slideshow button which links to the Camera Roll:

iOS developer Ron Melkhior figured that it was time to change that. After all, who actually uses the slideshow option more than the camera itself? You need a camera to take those photographs don't you? Melkhior's new jailbreak tweak is called CamSlideshow and what it does is very simple, it replaces the iPad 2's (yes, iPad 2 only; the iPad 1 doesn't have a camera) slideshow button with a camera button that takes you to your Camera application instead of your camera roll slideshow.
Since the tweak makes your iPad 2 a better point and shoot camera - it might make some people happy. But the other side of the story is: how reasonable is it to hold a tablet computer with a one megapixel camera in the air to take a photograph? It's true. If you want a point and shoot option, it would make more sense on an iPhone or an iPod touch simply because it's smaller. The iPhone, however, is the better choice because it has auto-focus and better camera specs (five megapixels/iPhone 4 and eight megapixels/iPhone 4S). So, maybe Apple might have been right on this decision not to put a camera button on the lock screen on the iPad 2, but at least this tweak will give you a choice.
CamSlideshow is a free jailbreak tweak and it requires iOS 5 because only iOS 5 is capable of having the camera shortcut on the lock screen in such a way. There aren't any settings to configure nor are any applications added to the home screen. To disable this tweak you will need to uninstall it and to enable it, you will need to install it!

Are you going to start using your newly jailbroken iOS 5.0.1 iPad 2 as a point and shoot camera with this jailbreak tweak? Share in the comments.
