Default Apple Tweaking Siri To Assist in Mobile Shopping

It was clear from the debut of iOS 5 that our new beloved personal assistant Siri has a lot of potential. And we're finally beginning to see what direction this potential may take in the near future.

According to published reports Thursday, Apple's Siri may soon be updated to help users in their mobile shopping endeavors. More specifically, voice commands may be able to facilitate mobile-web based transactions.

The reason for this newfound speculation comes on the heels of a patent application discovery this week by our friends at Apple Insider. Titled "Intelligent Automated Assistant," the application highlights how Siri may be used as a mobile shopping tool down the road.

With e-commerce functionality added to Siri, a user could ask their iPhone to purchase a new song, album, TV episode or movie through Apple's iTunes Store. Similarly, transactions through the iBookstore or even the App Store could theoretically be initiated.
Although the tech news space is buzzing about the anticipated forthcoming hardware releases from Apple, like the iPad 3, iPhone 5, and connected Apple HDTV, the most exciting developments are clearly going to originate from iOS as it grows more sophisticated. And Siri will definitely factor into this burgeoning software sophistication every step of the way.

If you're in a hurry for this rumored new feature, all signs point to Apple being in a hurry too. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the patent referenced above was first filed in January 2011. During the past year, it is believed that Apple has aggressively worked to prepare a number of significant Siri tweaks in time for iOS updates which may not be far off.

if you are not using it.. it does not run in the background and kill battery life...
i would check your other apps, and see whats running. I have never turned siri off, and i also have 2 exchange accounts setup to push mail all day, while on the wireless. All of these drain the battery significantly and it still lasts till about end of day.

I agree with LittleJob. I haven't noticed Siri use up any more battery than normal. If you use Siri to set location-based reminders however, then I can see it using up more battery.

I turned off all location services that I don't need or use.

    Child picks up Dads phone...

"Siri, please buy me 1000 pink ponies."

Siri: "It looks like only 432 pink ponies r available for purchase, will this due?"

Child: "Okay I'll take 432 ponies then, thank you Siri!!"

    Siri: "Order placed."

Why doesn't Apple tweak Siri so my fully capable iPhone 4 can utilize it?
