Default [Giveaway] Use 3G the Way You Want to With the Brand New 3G Unrestrictor 5

3G Unrestrictor is all new, all over again!

If you remember the classic 3G Unrestrictor application that we all know and love from the iOS 4 days, then you'll love to hear this; 3G Unrestrictor 5 has been released by iOS developer Kim Streich, completely rewritten for iOS 5, and it supports many of iOS 5's new features that we didn't have in iOS 4. 3G Unrestrictor 5 is a tool that lets you use 3G for anything you want - without the limitations that Apple puts on you when using cellular data. Some of these limits include App Store download limits, the inability to use FaceTime over 3G, and the inability to see YouTube videos in high quality. These are of course some of the more popular things that people demand, but 3G Unrestrictor 5 doesn't stop at just those three things.

3G Unrestrictor 5 also takes features from iOS 5 such as iCloud backups and Photo Stream to the 3G level. Usually, to save on data plan overages and to keep bandwidth low, these features are limited to being on Wi-Fi only. 3G Unrestrictor 5 gives you the option to enable these features over your cellular network so that you can use every feature of your iPhone even when abroad. 3G Unrestrictor 5 won't force the features on you. The applications that you allow to pass through the cellular network are completely customizable to help you personally manage your cellular data usage. Kim understands that some networks have caps. So this feature should be great for most of you.

3G Unrestrictor 5 puts an application on your home screen that allows you to manage the applications that get to use 3G Unrestrictor 5's abilities. When you open the application for the first time, there will be nothing in it because as a safety precaution, everything is left at its defaults until you are ready to add applications that will start eating up all of your cellular data. After opening it, the application will look like the image below:

Once you have the application open, you can basically add any application on your iPhone to the list that you want to. The process for doing this is nicely displayed to you in the application, "to unrestrict an app press edit and then+." Once you do that, you'll be provided with a list of applications that you can add to the unrestricted list. The interface looks like the image below:

Once you've selected the applications that you want to unrestrict, it becomes effective immediately without requiring any kind of restart or respring. Now when you go on 3G, you can use the application any way that you've ever been restricted from doing without being connected to a Wi-Fi network. For example, if you're on 3G and you use the App Store, you are prohibited from downloading applications that are over 20MB. If you add the App Store to your 3G Unrestrictor 5 list, then you can download any application that you want to. Just a side note; if you add App Store to this list, iTunes is added to the list with it automatically. You can remove applications by tapping the edit button and selecting delete next to the application that you want to remove.

Certain applications have additional settings that can be configured through the 3G Unrestrictor 5 application by tapping on the blue arrow button on the right of any application on the list. Some have settings and some don't. One that does is the YouTube application. You can choose between video quality settings depending on what radio you're using. If you are on E (Edge/2G), you can select low quality to make it load faster. If you are on 3G, you can select medium/high to get the best quality. If you're on Wi-Fi, you can select high because you're not eating up your data plan. 3G Unrestrictor 5 includes SBSettings toggles so that you can turn the functionality on and off at your own leisure.

3G Unrestrictor 5 isn't for everybody. If you're buying only 256MB of data per month from a carrier such as AT&T, then this application would be dangerous if you don't closely monitor your usage. With all applications freed on the cellular network, you can easily pound through as much data as you would on Wi-Fi without realizing it. On the other hand, if you're grandfathered into unlimited data or you have a reasonably high cap amount, then you want this tweak. It makes life a lot better. It basically just tricks applications into thinking that they're on Wi-Fi when they're not.

If you need more information about 3G Unrestrictor 5, Kim has constructed a Web site dedicated to information about it. You can visit the Web site from this link. The Web site notes that 3G Unrestrictor will be compatible with the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. It works with any iOS 5 or iOS 4 device that supports cellular radios. iOS 4.1 or higher is required to use FaceTime over 3G or to watch medium quality YouTube videos over 3G.

More good news? If you're a current 3G Unrestrictor customer, you can upgrade to 3G Unrestrictor 5 for the next 3 days for the price of only 99. After three days, it will cost you $1.99 to upgrade. Since the application was re-written, it is a new purchase and completely separate from the previous application. Kim has been working on it for several months. If you are completely new to the 3G Unrestrictor scene altogether, then you will have to shell out $3.99 to get 3G Unrestrictor 5.

Still not enough good news for you? Then maybe this will kick you back in your computer chair. Don't bother standing up because you'll just sit down again. Kim has decided that he wants to give away ten copies of 3G Unrestrictor 5 to the lucky readers of Modmyi. Here's how to win:

Leave a comment below explaining in a five sentence meaty paragraph as to why you deserve to win. Include your Cydia number because that's the only way we can credit you the application. We will pick the winners in a couple of days.
