Default International Trade Commission Shoots Down Apple Suit Against Motorola

Motorola scored a huge preliminary ruling today by The International Trade Commission stating their Droid line of phones do not violate Apple’s patents.

The original complaint filed by Apple with the ITC claimed that Motorola's Droid phones infringed on a number of multi-touch patents Apple holds. Motorola issued the following statement in response to the ITC’s ruling.

"We are pleased with today's favorable outcome for Motorola Mobility. Motorola Mobility has worked hard over the years to develop technology and build an industry-leading intellectual property portfolio. We are proud to leverage this broad and deep portfolio to create differentiated innovations that enhance the user experience." — Scott Offer, senior vice president and general counsel of Motorola Mobility.
Obviously this another blow to Apple’s patent war efforts, which haven’t been particularly successful as of late. While, there is still a chance the ITC could rule in Apple’s favor it is unlikely the six-member commission will change their ruling which will bring an end to this particular complaint first levied back in October of 2010.

One down, countless more suits to go.
