Pod2G Updates Blog: iBooks Fix Coming to Corona Untether

Pod2g tells us that an iBooks fix is on its way!
If you jailbroke your iDevice recently with the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, then you'll be very happy to hear that an iBooks patch is being worked on and will be released very shortly. The news is brought to us by the father of the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, pod2g via his blog. It won't only fix iBooks, but it will fix many other applications that are having sandbox issues. The upcoming Corona package can be installed over your redsn0w 0.9.10b3 jailbreak, or you can simply update the package if you used Corona all along.
We expect that following the Corona update, redsn0w will receive an update that can be performed directly over your current untethered jailbreak if you deselect the, "Install Cydia" option. You should go ahead and perform the update even if you're not an iBooks user because it will ensure that you will not have any sandbox problems in the future with whatever you might do on your iDevice.
The man working on the fix for iBooks goes by the Twitter name of xvolks. It is a kernel level patch, so it's done the right way. You can see his Tweet below:

Obviously, we feel that when we purchase our books from the iTunes store, we feel that we should be able to read them even after we jailbreak our iDevices; right? This fix should make it so that if you are jailbroken you will be able to open iBooks without any problems and read your eBooks. When the patch comes out, are you going to download iBooks again? I know I will. Share in the comments.

Well I have the 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak on my iPhone 4 and I have a fix that got it working. I'm able to read and sync all my books. The only bad thing is you have to deal with the ugly big stock iOS icon unless you use iFile or the like to go in and change the icon manually, which is what I did, but I'd much rather have a fix done the right way. Thanks guys!!! I can't wait to see the update.

I think ibooks fix 2 works fine. This may be a waste of effort.

These updates are fantastic. The question is will the team continue to ignore placing these updates in pwnagetool or will they continue to let it languish in its defectiveness?

There is already a fix for iBooks.. Google it and or youtube it... its on a (not allowed to talk about here repo) "iBooks Fix For iOS 5" fix was done by r0bop0lo. It installs iBooks as a native Application and over rides the checks that prevent it from working once Untether jailbroken.

there's been a couple work arounds to the iBooks fix I've stumbled upon, but getting the real deal back will be nice, so I have it working on my pad, haven't done it on my phone yet

The You-Know-Who iBooks fix2 is a pretty crude fix. I strongly suggest not using it. You cannot update iBooks after installing that fix (or any such fix that makes it a native app) and it's a mess to go into iFile later to delete all traces of it so you can reinstall it fresh. Books will sync to and from, but bookmarks/highlights do not - I lost at least two week's worth of highlighted text after deleting 1.32 and installing 1.50 under Redsn0w 0.9.9b92, which had an iBooks fix under tethered 5.0. (Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 is for untethered 5.01 but iBooks crashes under there).
