Apple New Years Alarm Bug Affecting Those Who Haven't Upgraded to iOS 5

Yesterday marked the new year, and with it a few iOS users may have found themselves waking up later than planned, and not because of their excessively inebriated state the night before.

Last year on the first and second of January a number of iOS users were afflicted by a bug that prevented their set alarms from actually working. For users who needed to catch flights, get to work, or clean up the house before the parents got home, this created some apparent problems. The bug affected single-use alarms set on the January 1st and 2nd. Alarms that were scheduled to repeat at least once throughout the week were not affected. Apple claimed to have fixed this in iOS 5.

Testing has confirmed Apple has indeed fixed this issue in iOS 5, but that does not include the millions of phones still stuck running iOS 4.2.1. Obviously most users still running 4.2.1 should have upgraded to iOS 5 by now, but iPhone 3G owners simply can’t and some in the jailbreak community might be holding on to an older firmware with proven jailbreaks instead of upgrading.

Whatever the case, the solution is rather simple this year: upgrade your device to iOS 5 or plan ahead.

True, but a ton of people still use older phones like the iPhone 3G.

I suppose you could use an alarm app from the app store instead of the built in one when the time comes

Yeah hardly Apples fault for not developing a working clock in 2011. It's embarrassing iOS has shipped with so many clock bugs.

For some people the jailbreak is quite unstable and some stuff is just plain broken. I updated but all the functionality is now gone so i'm downgrading.

I upgraded to ios5 on my iPhone4 and jail broken. Alarm shows up just doesn't make sound. I have my alarm turned on for weekdays. Anyone know of another background alarm?

Thanks for posting false information. Slept in this morning because my alarm wasn't going off on my ipod touch 4g ios 5.0.1. And please don't tell me, i didn't hear it. I always do and also there was no notification on notification center.

I'm still running 4.3.3 on my 4 for 1 reason my battery lasts more then 3 hours. On 5.0 and 5.0.1 I was getting about 3-4 hours of standby time before the phone would shutoff from a dead battery. On 4.3.3 it lasts me all day with no issues
