Probably because more than 70% of the iPhone market owns an iPhone 4 still.

It really wouldn't matter because no matter what the iPhone 5.0.1 files are always and will always be open.

AFAIK it doesn't matter if they encrypt the filesystem for the next update (5.1) the "hackers" could continue to reference 5.0.1 which was left wide open.

you can't undo something like this =P

Luckily it's not something that can be patched, once you have the files, you're good.

I can't wait. I honestly switched over to the dark side and bought a Galaxy SII Skyrocket just to change it up for me a little bit. My iPhone 4 has been waiting in the closet patiently awaiting for Siri and an untethered jailbreak since I switched. Hopefully the Devs release it before years end!

Save your 5.0.1 APTickets via iFaith v1.4 or the new version of Tiny Umbrella and then you can bypass any future revisions of 5.0.1 and later fw releases. Now that the untethered exploit is said to be compatible with 5.0 & 5.0.1 there's no worries about upgrading. You can probably bet your axx that once Apple finds out about this they'll be changing it.

*edited due to a part of my comment making no sense, still very early, sorry.

With it being legal at this moment I think we will see it very soon. There have already been ports that didn't work because of the above reasons (in article) so if they've been able to get that far without legal ability I believe the geniuses (dev teams) at work will have this cut for us rather quickly.

May be a dumb question but should I go ahead and update to 5.0.1 or can I stay on 5.0? Thanks again for answering my crazy question. Haha

I still don't believe it's legal to port Siri even if it's open filesystem. You still using Apple codes and server (unless your rich and could share your server). Just because you have the access to the Siri files necessary to port it, doesn't mean it's ok to use them. Apple left the filesystem open as a bait so they could sue the crap out of anyone stupid enough to fall for it.

If your not having any problem with 5.0, then don't bother upgrading.

Surely just because we have the files does not mean that we are legally entitled to use them. Isn't that what licensing is about? By this definition, because I have Office 2010 installed on my computer and a sufficient app to circumvent the activation process, means I'm legal? I don't think so.

. Just like a jailbreak itself homie. It's moral introspection. I think ur the kinda guy that hates very one that recycles because YOU don't THINK it's a good idea. I'd believe the devs before anything else is said. Apple unlocked the ability to obtain I dependent files. They may do it for future builds but as for now it's open. Enjoy what we might be able to obtain and keep.

Contrary to what you may believe, jailbreaking does not include using apple's existing code, it introduces new codes therefore not breaking any copyright infrigements. This port does the exact opposite. If were going to use Apple's server for this port then we need to trick it into believing it's a 4S. Doesn't that strike you as something ILLEGAL? Not only are we using Apple's Siri code but modifying them without authorization. Unless Apple explicitly says its ok to use and modify their code it's illegal! What the devs says and does isn't always moral or correct.

Siri needs 4S authentication, based on a unique device id which is refreshed periodically. Porting the files and having Siri still does not bypass this requirement for it to work. Get clarity.
