Apple Drops Apple TV Software 4.4.4 and iOS 5.0.1 Tweaks for iPhone 4S

On Thursday, Apple issued a software update for the second-generation Apple TV. This takes the beloved little set-top box to version 4.4.4. As of this writing, the update - build 9A406a - brings with it yet-to-be discovered improvements and modifications.
In November, the last Apple TV software update was released (4.4.3), bringing with it support for Netflix streaming in Mexico and other minor audio-related fixes. For now, until more details become available, it's a safe assumption that version 4.4.4. delivers some pretty straightforward tiny bug fixes that won't rock the Apple TV to any substantial degree.
Also today, Apple released what is an equally mysterious modified version of iOS 5.0.1 for the iPhone 4S. This slightly tweaked version (Build 9A406) also appears to be incredibly minor and indicative of a larger forthcoming effort in future iOS 5 updates.
As we understand it, this barely tweaked version of iOS 5.0.1 isn't showing up for many users presently running the original version of iOS 5. It does, however, appear to be offered to those upgrading to iOS 5.0.1.
We will provide more details as they become available.

I'm guessing that they have patched something that might have lead to a jailbreak for the 4s

Wait so siri files without piracy!? So we will finally get a real siri port now!! This is probably the best christmas present apple has given us! Just shows that the red fruit grinch does have a heart after all lol. If only that apple tv update allowed for video mirroring from iphone 4. Hopefully the devs take advantage of this and get us a real siri port ASAP(:

They've updated the baseband for the iPhone 4s from 1.0.13 to 1.0.14, visible in the Firmware dir of the root. Looks like no changes to the baseband for older devices. No word yet on any changes to the OS itself yet. pod2g will need to confirm if his unteather will still work on 9A406.

An "open filesystem" means that the ramdisk included in the OS bundle was unencrypted, and therefore the VFDecrypt key for the main filesystem is in plain text and easily extracted.
It does NOT mean that any kernel or filesystem protections included in the OS are not in force on the device. All it means is "this filesystem's contents are very easily viewed on a Mac or PC."
Also, should go without saying by now: DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS OR ANY OTHER NEW FIRMWARE IF YOU WANT A JAILBREAK IN THE FUTURE. Sole exception to this is if Pod2G says that it's safe.
PS: A public 4S jailbreak is still needed before a non-interposition (read: no proxy server) Siri port is possible.Last edited by Orby; 12-15-2011 at 05:07 PM.

Might I ask why you did that (if it was jailbroken)? Even if it wasn't, OTA updates are notoriously flaky.
May I humbly suggest you bust out a Micro-USB cord, DFU, and restore it? If you want a jailbroken 4.4.4, I'd be looking to Firecore to release a new Seas0npass within 48 hours.

From what I can see, Apple TV update 4.4.4 brings iTunes Match to users in Mexico. I don't know if other countries were given support, but it's probable. Also, some other bugs and fixes might be included...
