Microsoft has been releasing apps for the iOS platform left and right with the release of
My Xbox LIVE,
OneNote for iPad, and
SkyDrive. The company seems to be taking another major step by introducing Kinectimals onto the iOS gaming platform. The game, which is primarily aimed for children, involves interacting with virtual animals. Kinectimals debuted last year as an Xbox 360 game, which took advantage of the Kinect motion-sensing control system.
The mobile experience gives users the chance to use their iOS device to visit the island of Lemuria and play with, care for, and become attached to your very own cub. The app allows users to bring their pet with them wherever they go. For those of you who own Kinectimals for the Xbox 360, your iOS device will also become the key to unlocking five new cubs for your console version as well.
The release of this application marks an interesting move for Microsoft, which has already established a gaming brand with the Xbox and Kinect lineup that seems to be using the leverage to promote its own Windows Phone platform. Microsoft seems to be making a significant push into the iOS platform though recently, which is probably a good business decision on their end to begin with. It also goes to show the company is willing to branch out from its own platforms to support games running directly on iOS devices.
If you are interested in playing Kinectimals, you can do so on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch as it is a universal application priced at $2.99 in the App Store.
