iPhone 4S Cleared For Sales in China With Expected December Arrival
The folks over at MIC Gadget are reporting that China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have finally issued the network access permit for the iPhone 4S earlier this week. According to the report, this permit was the last obstacle standing in Apple’s way to officially sell the iPhone 4S in China. In response to the news, China Unicom has said that it expects to launch the device by the end of the month.
The company had previously revealed in November that they had already finished preparations for the iPhone 4S and was just awaiting the final permit from the government. The carrier is reportedly estimating the 16 GB iPhone 4S to go on sale for 4,999 yuan ($786) off contract.
Financial analysts have indicated that their estimates of 28 million iPhone units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2011 will see a strong upside if Apple successfully launches in the world’s most populated country. According to Apple, there already seem to be 7,000 points of sale for its smartphone in the country. The iPhone 4S has already arrived in Hong Kong in November, with a set launch date in Taiwan on December 16th. Apple has been on a small portion of the region until now with this deal, so the increase in sales is expected at this point.
The company has already seen record sales of $4.5 billion in the last quarter, making it the company’s second-largest market in terms of revenue. During a recent quarterly earnings call, Tim Cook mentioned that progress in China, which recently surpassed the U.S. to become the world’s largest smartphone market, has been “amazing” and offers continued promise of “enormous opportunity” for the company.
With constant progress being made, it is highly expected that Apple’s revenue will increase drastically since the release of the iPhone 4S. Were you one of the many who jumped ship? Do you think the trend of increased sales for each iPhone released will continue with the next? Share any thoughts and opinions below!
