The fix for the Cablevision (now Optimum) app is to change the app name for Cydia. You have to change a couple bundle identifiers in the info.plist and also the binary in addition to changing the .app folder. I use Cydia2. To get it to work on VPN there are a couple fixes (.deb files) floating around out there. I tried a few different ones till I found one that works. However, for me it doesn't work so well because the app won't scale to video quality to the bandwidth available.

see, if other apps can see if you're jailbroken, you think Apple can't?people who think apple does everything to stop us are just wrong. apple knows that their sales would drop if their devices were unjailbreakable. I for one would not have an iPhone if I couldnt jailbreak it...

Also, apple benefits from jailbreakers. i.e. wifi sync. They barely bothered to change the icon! SMS tones. Same thing. They get to see what people want AND they have hired at least one jailbreaker!
