I have a modded backplate made of titanium and I have noticed that it can get quite hot at times, but rarely it has to been in use for a long time before it even starts to get warm. But I believe it was a modified backplate as well.

Lithium Polymer batteries are potentially volatile, and occasionally misbehave. In phone uses, the amp draw is pretty low, so cooling is not a design issue. When the polymer membranes inside the battery are breached, reactants inside the battery that are normally separated suddenly get to occupy the same space, and overheating, melting and even flames can be the result. These breaches can be the result of impact, defects or overcharging. If you haven't seen them, lookup lipo fires on youtube. A lot of energy density in a little space makes for some dramatic flare-ups.

i live at 7200 ft and my i4 and i4s are just dandie, so idc what pressure the cabins in planes are (as long as there is some) didn't do anything in this situation.

Maybe Steve is trying to tell us something....like when people see Jesus in their morning toast?

...or maybe it was the big bad iPhone bomber. Great, no more smartphones on airplanes...Last edited by stryker_tc; 11-29-2011 at 09:28 PM.

I would bet that it is the original back. The cracks and missing slivers of glass make it look the way it does.
Also, any RC hobbyist knows the dangers that come along with Li-Po batteries. If they fail they will smoke like crazy and then ignite with a powerful display.
Here's an example... Lipo explode - YouTubeLast edited by luvmytj; 11-29-2011 at 10:56 PM.

That's insane! Wonder if it was caused by "porn" overload!
