Article: Pwn Dev Team's Recently Released Jailbreak Tool Ac1dSn0w Infringes Copyright Laws

Apparently the recently released jailbreak tool, Ac1dsn0w, which was recently released by the Pwn Dev Team infringes upon Apple’s code. The jailbreak tool allows for a tethered jailbreak of any iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1 iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, or iPad 1. It comes with similar tools to other jailbreaking tools and allows you to boot tethered as well as jailbreak.

Through the use of Apple’s code, the tool is able to perform a tethered boot without requiring the IPSW in the first place. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team recently mentioned that hosting this jailbreak tool can lead to "DMCA takedowns". In light of its patent infringement, the links to the tool have been remove from ModMyi as we do not condone any illegal activity.

It isn't confirmed how long the jailbreak tool will remain up for but we would imagine that Apple will get it removed shortly given the situation. The tool is said to have directly embedded 15 complete Apple programs including multiple iBSS, iBEC, and kernels. We can't imagine Apple letting this slide for too long and would suggest steering clear. Instead, it is suggested to stick to the iPhone Dev Team’s RedSn0w jailbreak tool or iH8sn0w’s Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool instead. (You can use the ModMyi Jailbreak Assistant to help out here)

We'll keep everyone updated on the status of Ac1dsn0w as it is likely that more news regarding its infringement and availability will come in the near future.

uh....cuz the interface looks better? lol. but yeah even then, I too don't get why they released Ac1dSn0w where there isn't anything better than Redsn0w. quite dumb call on them. haha we'll see what happens. Or the dev of Ac1dSn0w should collab with the dev team to make better interface or something :P

You don't need the ipsw, but then again, it illegally acquires the needed files.

Still waiting for UNtethered iOS5 for any phone. IMHO, not much of a jailbreak if you can't take it anywhere. Not like you get more than 2 days of battery from any iPhone these days (with regular use).

I too hold my breath and cross my fingers. But unless we learn to write code then all we can do is wait. I would rather It be right when it does come out rather than rush it and cause problems.

Jailbreaking is NOT (never was, never will be) illegal. It is only the program itself (Ac1dsn0w) which is illegal. That was not known when the first post/article was made.
