Three Major Taiwanese Mobile Carries to Launch iPhone 4S Third Week of December
According to Digitimes Taiwanese mobile carriers will launch the iPhone 4S between the 14th-16th of December.
The three largest mobile carriers in Taiwan, Taiwan Mobile TWM), Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) and Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) will jointly launch the iPhone 4S in Taiwan according “industry sources in Taiwan.” While the exact date of launch is up to Apple it is expected fall between the dates mentioned above.
Apple is expected to ship 30,000 units with 50% going to CHT and TWM and FET each getting 25%. The 16GB and 32GB models of the 4S will account for the majority of units shipped with the 64GB version accounting for only 5%. The only hold up appears to be negotiations between the carriers and Apple on the price gap between similar versions of the iPhone 4 and 4S. The carriers want to bring the price difference down to about NT$1000 ($33).
Surprisingly, Digtimes threw an interesting tidbit about the Chinese market and the iPhone 4S into the story. According to Digitimes China United Network Communications (China Unicom) will remain the sole provider of the iPhone 4S in the Chinese market. Numerous reports have surfaced lately claiming Apple will bring their iPhone 4S to China Mobile, the country's largest telecom provider soon. Digitimes’ report contradicts that notion with sources pegging China Unicom as the sole provider of the iPhone 4S through the Chinese lunar year (the end of January).
Taiwanese iPhone owners can rest easy knowing they won’t be iPhone 4-less much longer.
