Thread: Enable Hidden Autocorrection Bar on iOS with Cydia Tweak AutocorrectionBar

Default Enable Hidden Autocorrection Bar on iOS with Cydia Tweak AutocorrectionBar

Enable iOS's hidden autocorrection bar easily with AutocorrectionBar from Cydia.

A few days ago, we learned that iOS developer Conrad Kramer discovered a hidden feature panorama mode for Camera in iOS 5 which can be enabled by changing a value in a .plist file. Right after information this surfaced, Grant Paul pushed out a package called Firebreak to Cydia to make it easier for people to utilize the hidden feature.

It seems that there are still hidden "easter eggs" to find in iOS's filesystem as a new discovery brings another interesting feature to the table. Yesterday, news of a hidden autocorrection bar hit the wild. This autocorrection bar changes the method by which iOS displays the autocorrect alternative words and even adds a button for accessing action methods (select, paste, etc.).

This Android-like autocorrect bar was first brought to the limelight yesterday by Sonny Dickson of 9to5Mac. Ryan Petrich released a package to make it easier to enable this feature as well as fix an iOS 5 bug crash associated with this enabling this value. After installing AutocorrectionBar from Cydia, go to Settings -> AutocorrectionBar to toggle it on/off. From there, anytime you are using your keyboard, the autocorrection bar will appear.

At this point, the autocorrection bar is not that practical and to be honest, it's quite annoying at this point. The method by which you move onto the next word while typing requires basically confirming each word which is cumbersome and slow. Nonetheless, if you want to give it a whirl, install it from Cydia. It's available on all devices running iOS 4.3+.

    Name: AutocorrectionBar
    Author: Ryan Petrich
    Version: 0.1-1
    Price: Free

Note: If you decide to remove AutocorrectionBar, make sure to disable both toggles inside Settings -> AutocorrectionBar before doing so. The .plist values are not changed upon uninstalling the tweak, so if you wish to remove the feature completely, make sure to do that.

For non-jailbroken users: Read this post on 9to5Mac to learn how you can enable this feature using iBackupBot and your device backup.

What do you think? Have you tried it yet? Post your thoughts below!

Don't bother with this it doesn't work very well and causes issues with many apps that access the keyboard

I don't recommend enabling this feature at all. The autocorrect bar is in pre-alpha stages and makes typing a complete pain to do. It will correct anything and everything you type into things you never meant to say.

Seems like Android has one-upped Apple with that feature.

I'm willing to bet when Apple officially releases this feature when it is done everyone will realize that apple releases features later but they always do it better. Copy and paste and multi tasking for instance. Copy and paste to the point where android straight up copied the look and how to do it :P Apple will make this feature to be amazing there is a reason it isn't released yet just like panoramic photos

I regularly use both operating systems. When I am on iOS there are things I miss from Android. When I am on Android there are things are miss from iOS. It's definitely not a one way street. But, thanks for the suggestion...

A lot of them are used for things like mathematical modelling of climate change, objects in space moving around another etc.

Panoramic photos on my Galaxy S2 work beautifully! Not sure why you think they don't, unless you just haven't tried it.

Not sure how you can make the auto correct better than Android already has. You type the word and if you know it's not in the dictionary you click to add it and done. Even Swype figures out those words for you. Now THAT is something Apple will probably never have or if they do, nobody can say they won't have copied it from them.

You do know Apple owns Swype, right? Apple bought Naunce, and Naunce recently bought Swype. So Apple could chose to implement Swype into iOS.

Yes, Nuance purchased Swype but ya know? I'm having the darndest time finding anything that confirms Apple bought Nuance. Nuance may be hosting their Siri stuff but I found nothing that says Apple owns them. Wishful thinking, methinks. Can you find one?

That's incorrect. There's no documentation or evidence that Apple bought Nuance. It was pure speculation when iOS dictation arose in the early iOS 5 beta days.

I agree with dsg...this correction bar blows. Why can't Apple actually fix the autocorrect on the iphone? You actually have to hit "confirm" then space if you type in the corrrect word with this feature...very sad that such a great phone has to be limited by such simple features.

nah i wasn't saying panoramic doesn't work amazingly on android i was just saying people are complaining how apple's sucks right now along with this feature and people seem to not understand that it isn't released for a reason. that reason being that it isn't finished.
