Apple Going After Adult Websites That Use Apple, iPhone Brand Names

Apple is going after the owners of a number of web domains that look to capitalize on the name-brand power of Apple's most famous products - particularly the iPhone 4S.

Incredibly, Apple didn't secure the domain name iPhone4s.com, and as a result, the ownership of that hot digital real estate has fallen into "the wrong hands."

According to the folks at Domainnamewire.com, Apple "has just filed a complaint with World Intellectual Property Forum over seven domain names that include the term “iPhone” and forward to a mobile porn service."

The handful of understandably controversial domain names (which we won't list here for obvious reasons) all incorporate the iPhone 4s name into their titles. What's more, all were registered way back in August of 2008.

While it is ordinarily pretty easy to find out who purchased and subsequently owns a given domain name, the owners(s) of all of the domain names in questions have opted for added privacy service to conceal their whois records.

As the folks at Domainnamewire.com pointed in out in their report today, "if you really want to p%&$-off a large company, just put some porn up on domain names that include its brands." And, apparently, Apple is just the latest corporate giant to be victimized by this practice.

Hmm.. this is really odd. Just out of curiosity, I typed in iPhone4S.com. Low and behold, porn ads. What is that about? How does that even come about in someones head. "Hey, let's make a porn site. but to make it a better chance of people coming, we'll take the name of the new iPhone, add .com. Boom. Porn. Not to mention it'll just off Apple. Everyone hates Apple."
