Some Users Reporting iPhone 4S Screens With Yellow Tint
It appears with 4 million units sold, Apple’s quality control mechanisms were unable to prevent a number of iPhone 4Ss with yellow tinted screens from slipping into the hands of consumers.
A number of messages have popped up in the Apple Support forum complaining of the issue, complaining of washed out screens with a yellow tint on their phones, especially when compared to the iPhone 4. While this could be simply an issue of different LCD’s being used between the 4 and 4S, it appears it is not, as only the black 4Ss appear to be affected.
Yellow tinting is an issue Apple users are familiar with. The phenomenon has affected Apple products from the 3G iPhone, iPad 2, and most notably Apple’s iMacs, which seem to be habitual offenders of the yellow tint. A possible explanation noted by a few people posting in the support forum is that the yellowing is a result of the glue used to put the screens together not fully hardening or curing. Many iPhone 4 users who experience the yellow tinting initially last year saw it disappear as the glue hardened.
However, the contrast issue could be a separate problem, with one user writing:
my 4S screen is less contrasty, and the whites are more yellow (beyond 'warm') compared to my iPhone 4 screen. The colors are less vibrant, and some are pretty washed out. I've also noticed that the screen is more directional than the 4 screen, and in some viewing angles it's more yellow, and in others it's more contrasty. I'm really hoping this is a glue issue, which could improve. I don't think I'll be able to get used to this.

Here we go again. Its a phone. And just like last time the glue will dry and the screen will be fine.

Its a manufacturing thing. It will go away.

It's easy to say that when you personally are not affected by the problem. I would immediately exchange it.

Mine is perfectly fine, but If I had that problem I wide exchange it immediately. 😒Iphone...Therefore I am!

I actually have this problem. It's very noticeable when I compare my phone alongside my old iPhone 4, and we'll see if time will fix this. I've had the phone for a few days.

I noticed it immediately on my white 4s. Held side by side to my black ip4, the 4s is noticeably more yellow hue'd. On its own I do not notice it at all, and have not noticed any issue with contrast.

Is this not the same thing that people complained about between the Iphone 3g and The iphone 3gs? Apple said ti was suppose to be like that for the "warmth" or whatever they called it.

Agreed I think they simply warmed up the hue a little. I see no difference in clarity, sharpness, or contrast. And the "yellow" is not in splotches or just the corners or anything like that.

Didn't the exact same thing happen when the iphone 4 launched? It's deja vu all over again.

No problems at all with my 4s 64gb black, in fact since receiving it at midday on Launch day it has consistently proven itself to be an exceptional upgrade to the iPhone4 - far better service and 3g using the same sim in the same locations as I used with the iPhone 4 which had an annoying tendency to loose service in big buildings/supermarkets/shopping centers etc, blazing fast (although maybe a lack of jailbreak helps a little there), Siri is just mindblowing - in fact the amount I paid for factory unlocked has to worth it for that alone - if you drive alot and have a dock in your car Siri just makes the whole phone work without ever taking your eyes from the road, the camera - it's better - and all this on a handset I only really got because I wanted double the storage from the iPhone 4 32gb.

FWIW: I loaded upa pic in the LS of my wife. same one on the iP4 and iP4S. The pic has much better colors, skin tone and hair color on the iP4S. on the iP4 it has a cooler or bluish tint.
I agree the warmer look has to do with picutres/photos. I do tend to perfer the bluer or cooler tint, just has more snap. I do not like it as much with photos though.
Just my 2 cents. if you a 4 and 4s. Load a photo on the LS, at same brightness and see for yourself. Do you agree?
