Jailbreak iOS 5 Public Release with Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze
With the public version of iOS 5 out in the wild, the jailbreak community is wondering whether this new build can be jailbroken. According to a recent tweet by iH8sn0w (@iH8sn0w), tethered jailbreaking the new version is possible with either redsn0w 0.9.9b4 or sn0wbreeze v2.8 beta 8.
From what he mentioned, the public release of iOS 5 has the same IPSW file and build number that was seeded to developers previously. This is what makes it possible to jailbreak the newest version with the current tools.
Note that redsn0w is available on both OS X and Windows while sn0wbreeze is Windows only. In order to preserve baseband, you must use sn0wbreeze as redsn0w does not have that capability.
Here are the download links below:
redsn0w 0.9.9b4 for Mac
redsn0w 0.9.9b4 for Windows
sn0wbreeze v2.8 beta 8 (Windows only)
- There is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 that is available yet
- It is not possible to jailbreak the iPad 2 on iOS 5 at this time
For those of you that may use ultrasn0w or a Gevey Sim, please heed this information from MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd) which was posted on Twitter earlier:

Now I just have to wait for a way to continue to preserve my Baseband on my Old Bootrom 3GS, so I can update it & then sell it to get my 4S

I think this was possible with snowbreeze on iOS GM as I remember there was even a separate update to snowbreeze so that it could make iOS 5 beta/GM untethered on the old bootrom 3GS?

Question. If I have an iPhone 4 4.3.3 factory unlocked already jailbreaked untethered. If I update from iTunes the firmware, will I lose the jailbreak? Thanks
10-12-2011, 01:56 PM #14
You'll loose the jailbreak but you can rejailbreak it tethered.I can't even get that far cause I keep getting the good ole 3002 error...stupid hosts file

Question, if I use the tethered jailbreak now can I use the untethered jailbreak on top of it once it is released? Or must I reinstall ios 5 then jailbreak?

If I try tethered jailbreak on an iP4 and preserve baseband what happens if my phone reboots?
