iOS 5 Update for Libstatusbar Released

With a wave of applications now becoming iOS 5 compatible, such as PreferenceLoader, Activator, CleverPin, and others, it will be an awesome first day on iOS 5's public release since so many of the most staple applications to the jailbreak community are being updated. Once again, tonight is another significant step in terms of compatibility because Paul Griffin (@phoenixdev) just tweeted out that he released an iOS 5 update for libstatusbar.

Now you may be wondering, what is libstatusbar? Libstatusbar is the small yet extremely important package that allows applications to show icons in the status bar. So when you think of applications like iBlacklist, biteSMS, OpenNotifier, and others like that, they all depend on libstatusbar to run (or I should say function to their fullest potential). As an example, when you receive a call that you blocked within iBlacklist, a phone icon will appear on your status bar alerting you that a phone call was blocked.
Now that libstatusbar is public, applications that require or use status bar icons to their advantage can now start to be updated since the developers now have public access to libstatusbar.
It's been a successful couple days for developers as they are working hard to get their packages ready for iOS 5 - let's see the trend continue!
Sidenote: Paul also released an update for Bolt which is a free tweak that changes your battery icon on your status bar to a lightning bolt. It is also compatible with iOS 5 now (as mentioned in the tweet). Go check it out!

I hope there is an iOS 5 Compatibility Sheet for Cydia apps like the one for iOS 4. Since this is a major iOS release and not a .x release, there are gonna be a lot of apps that have to be updated so that they function normally on iOS 5. With the help of a well maintained and updated Google excel sheet, we can make our decisions of upgrading to iOS 5 much better.

BiteSMS shows icons on the status bar, but it doesn't depend on the download of libstatusbar. I am glad to see more and more applications be updated. Soon, I hope to see SwitcherMod updated so I can remove the g#$damn recent useless applications from my multitasking bar.
You won't see an untethered JB until iOS5 is released. You wouldn't want Apple to patch the exploit before official release now would you?

I'm looking forward to @chpwn updating IconSupport. His computer has been out for repair which delayed things like Gridlock, Five-Column Springboard, etc

BiteSMS generally does; the beta version of biteSMS has a "work-around" if you will because they needed to do extensive testing and such. Same with iRealSMS. Since libstatusbar is public, they can revamp again to add libstatusbar support publicly (both of these respective people had an updated version of libstatusbar prior to release).

Status bar icons and SMS quick reply are the reason I jailbreak. I like the notification center but Apple dropped the ball not having a icon that you have a notification.
