Jailbreak iOS 5 GM with Latest Redsn0w

Disclaimer: Jailbreaking on the iOS 5 beta (GM) is done at your own risk.

As we all know, today was Apple's long-awaited day to shows us what the company has in store. Details for the iPhone 4S are out as well as the iOS 5 GM, which is now available for developers via the Apple iOS Dev Center. This brings up the question; so how is the jailbreak community handling it? According to MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd), redsn0w seems to be on par with jailbreaking the newly released iOS 5 GM.

One thing MuscleNerd noted is that you must point redsn0w to the iOS 5 beta 7 IPSW, not the new GM IPSW. This is a matter of redsn0w not having updated the detection mechanism - but no matter, it works nonetheless!

Note: This version of redsn0w does not allow you to jailbreak the iPad 2 on the iOS 5 GM. Also, this is a tethered jailbreak. When a untethered jailbreak is released, it will be heavily exemplified on.

Update: redsn0w 0.9.9b3 was released. It now auto-detects the IPSW - no longer do you need to point at the beta 7 IPSW. The download links are below:

While this is good news, I'll wait until an untethered JB can be performed on the GSM iPhone 4 before going to iOS 5.

So, since Siri is not included in the iOS5 GM for iPhone 4, will we (meaning the people who do the jailbreaking) be able to hack that in ala multitasking following 3GS release?

I'd say that is a possibility. Depending if the code for siri is in the iPhone 4 firmware buried somewhere.

Jailbreak not the same as unlock

There's nothing saying the iPhone 4S is factory locked unless you're referring to the CDMA part which can't be unlocked period.

It's in the picture for those who are wondering. Josh I think it should be referenced(tethered) since sooo many people Care enough to jump in everyone's face if they ask a simple question. I almost asked myself before I looked at the picture.

I can change it accordingly.Note that if the jailbreak was untethered, I would specifically note in the title. It's important enough for it to be noted in the title.
