Sprint Employee Vacation Blackout Window is an iPhone 5 Release 'Guesstimate'
On Friday, reports surfaced that Sprint had begun a company-wide retail employee vacation blackout between September 30th and October 15th. Given the hype surrounding a probable iPhone arrival to the Sprint network, many are interpreting the blackout reports to suggest a definitive time-frame for the iPhone 5's release. But no so fast says one source who wises to remain anonymous at Sprint.
I was informed this morning that the blackout is, at best, a "guesstimate" of when the iPhone 5 will roll out. According to the source with whom I spoke, Apple executives are thought to still be weighing their options with regard to the most opportune time to unveil the iPhone 5 during the month of October. While yesterday's leaked internal Sprint memo indicates the carrier is blacking out the first two weeks of October in light of the “possibility of a major phone launch,” my source says everyone was quick to report on the "blackout" but not on the word "possibility."
Although it is difficult to imagine that the top brass at Sprint doesn't know the official release date, it is conceivable that Apple may not yet have a set-in-stone date for the fifth generation handset's market introduction. What's more likely, the source suggests, is that the release date itself is firm, but the date of Apple's media event to unveil and preview the device is still in limbo.
Given all the "October talk" we've heard in recent weeks, I'm still not ruling out a late September curve-ball.
As we reported earlier this week, all signs point to Sprint offering the iPhone 5 this fall. The carrier will distinguish itself from its fellow US competitors AT&T and Verizon by providing its base of 50+ million subscribers with an unlimited data plan for the ultra-popular Apple smartphone.

Pretty soon you'll be able to get iphones at the grocery store for $39 with prepaid airtime included.

I guess if I were anyone with say, at Apple, I'd pry save announcement for the week of Sept. 19th...I wouldn't want media coverage of the new device to overshadow remembrance of 9/11

I only hope the iPhone 5 will be a world phone with T-Mobiles 3G bands on it. But when I had Sprint I never had any problems with them so maybe if they get it and TMO doens't I'll jump to Sprint again.
What is wrong with this forum? I posted a reply and it's not here and I see the 1st comment and it says 9 up at the top but I can't see any of the other replies.

Just a bug, well i think version 4 of the site had a similar bug but I could click on the first post and then see the rest. Now I have to go into the forums to see the comments. I know in 3 it worked fine. I should probably mention it in the right forum though and will once I get a chance but I'm sure I'm not the only one that's noticed it. Anyway yes I can't wait to see if T-Mobile gets in on the iPhone 5 also. If not I'll go to Sprint because AT&T and Verizon are way to expensive.

Yep the bug lives on.
I'm sure they are aware of it by now. Should be fixed pretty soon though, although it wouldn't hurt to drop Kyle a line in the article/thread.
