Adobe Releases PDF Creator for iOS
Adobe and Apple aren't on the best of terms, especially given the Flash versus HTML5 and Premiere versus Final Cut battles of late. However, these quarrels didn't get in the way of Adobe releasing an iOS PDF creator today.
The application, CreatePDF, allows iOS users (iPhone and iPad) to make, edit, and view PDF files right in iOS. Adobe uses their own conversion techniques to produce "the same high-quality PDF creation as Adobe Acrobat." Users can even preserve links, end notes, foot notes, and create bookmarks. Also, PDFs of Power Point files preserve transitions, and converts multi-media content for PP files.
The application is a universal binary and costs $10. The price seems a little steep considering what the app does, and there are a litany of other PDF-conversion apps out there that do the same job except cheaper (albeit to a lesser quality). Also, the program doesn't support any of the native iWorks file formats. That means users must convert their Pages, Numbers, and Keynote files into the Microsoft equivalent before converting.
However, those who rely on the Adobe Creative Suite will love the quality of the PDFs as well as the support for Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign files. They might not love that the created PDFs can only be sent via email or printed, and not exported to say Dropbox or another cloud service.
File formats supported:
- MS Word (docx, doc), Excel(xlsx, xls), PowerPoint (pptx, ppt)
- Adobe Illustrator (ai), Photoshop (psd) and InDesign (indd)
- Images – JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF
- RTF, Text and WordPerfect
- OpenOffice and StarOffice documents

what's the point of using the web for converting?

"allows to make, edit, and view PDF files": incorrect: no editing possible. Preserves links, but they do not work inside the Creator.
"the created PDFs can only be sent via email or printed, and not exported to say Dropbox": incorrect: export to Dropbox is possible.

I could of sworn I could already read PDFs on my iPhone, but maybe it was because of a jailbroken app
