Comex Joins Apple as an Intern, No More JailbreakMe?

Comex, the hacker we've grown to love for JailbreakMe.com, will soon be joining the ranks of Cupertino as an intern.
Comex, who's real name is Nicholas Allegra, announced his hiring via Twitter:
Allegra, a 19-year old Brown University student, is famous for how flippin' easy his jailbreak exploits were compared to other iOS cracking devices. Exploiting Apple's PDF renderer, Allegra was able to install custom software to crack iOS devices by simply having the iOS user visit JailbreakMe.com with their iDevice. It's been really, really fun, but it's also been a while and I've been getting bored. So, the week after next I will be starting an internship with Apple.
An article with Forbes Magazine seemed to predict Allegra's hiring at Apple. The article in question ended with the author wondering if Apple needed a new security intern.
While Allegra and Apple haven't commented on what he will be doing with the company, it appears Forbes was right.

either beat them...or get them to join you.
Intern today, overpayed suit tomorrow. Really a smart move on Apple's part to try and control the proliferation of Jailbreaking.
I can't hate on Allegra. He is probably going to make a ton of money by this move.

I left this message earlier today...
Apple would be smart to hire all these guys, thereby reducing the pool of talent that would be willing to come up with jailbreaks in the future.
for us.
for comex.
On a different viewpoint, I believe apple actually benefits from jail breaking in general. I know I wouldn't buy/upgrade if a device is not jailbreakable. I must expect there's hundreds of thousands of similar feeling especially when you see there's over a million iPhones on t-mobile.
P.S. I wonder why this news didn't make the front page and other so-so stuff does? I would think this is big news to the jb community. Just me I guess. [this part just fulfilled!]Last edited by Brr; 08-26-2011 at 09:12 PM.

Im surprised Apple hasn't done this more often or until now and I suspect we will see more of this from them.

And this, my friends, is called selling out. No doubt an amazing opportunity though.

I wouldn't call it "Selling out", I call in "Buying in".

If Comex can get insurance on his liver, I'd highly recommend it.

I write Mac only tutorials for the iPhone and own every model. My iPhones run on the following SIMs/networks: AT&T, GoPhone, H2O, O2, SimpleMobile, T-Mobile and Verizon.

Agreed!!! I'm happy for the kid. He deserves great money for his skills. I just hope that apple opens their phucking minds enough to allow theming and perhaps a few necessary tweaks here and there. Those have to be the most important reasons for people to jailbreak in the first place......... other than needing to be jailbroken to unlock it (which news is saying there will no longer be a need for).
Congrats oh great one!!!
Thanks for all you've done for the community.

I like how everyone assumes that he's not going to jailbreak any more. First off, he's an intern which means that IF he does get paid, it won't be a lot. Second, why assume he's going to stop jailbreaking? Maybe this will be a way to make jailbreaks even easier. We still don't know if Apple even cares about jailbreaking since I doubt they are so strapped for cash that they can't hire developers to find and close jailbreak exploits all day long as part of their job.
Congratulations to Comex/Nicholas Allegra and I hope you make tons of money at Apple and I hope you continue your jailbreaking for those of us that weren't blessed with the technical skills to do it on our own. I think I speak for all of us when I say we will gladly donate but after a couple years at Apple you won't need the money lol. I still hope you continue to help the community with your jailbreaks and I wish you the best of luck at Apple.
