Some Amazon Purchases in Lion Up to Date Program Not Being Honored By Apple

Apple's OS X Lion "Up to Date" program allows qualifying Apple customers who purchased a new Mac on or before July 21 to redeem a free upgrade to OS X Lion. However, it appears Apple isn't honoring some of these purchases.

The above letter was sent to an Apple customer who purchased their Mac directly from Amazon.com. Amazon is an authorized reseller and is listed on Apple's website under "Apple Catalog and Internet Resellers." The language of the up to date program is very clear:

Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac Computer or an Apple Certified Refurbished computer from the Apple Online Store on or after July 21, 2011 that does not include OS X Lion can upgrade to OS X Lion for free.

If you purchased your computer from the Apple Online Store, an Apple Retail Store, or an Apple Authorized Reseller, follow one of these links to participate in the program. Remember your completed order must be entered within 30 days of the date of your purchase of a qualifying computer (described in this offer). Subject to terms and conditions.

Customers who purchased their Macs from Amazon within the allotted time should be eligible. It appears Apple has a small clerical error on its hands. Customers worried they wont be able to secure their copy of lion because of this, shouldn't fret.

Or maybe trying to cut out the middleman?
If so then it would be great if Apple would pass on the savings to customers, but I know Apple would do no such thing and just keep all the money to themselves.

Greedy apple behavior as usual. It will only be after a lot of grief and complains by many people that they will finally recognize their "error" and allow it.

Thats not possible, as amazon has the mbp CHEAPER than apples own listing... That plus no taxes, makes it a no brainer...

It is possible that the person purchased from a third party seller on Amazon, which might be causing the confusion. If so, they didn't actually buy from Amazon.

Not if Apple no longer consider Amazon as an authorized reseller, that may also mean warranty may not be honored etc. I would be hesitant to buy any new electronics that does not include manufacturer's warranty.
