Disable Autocorrect In Safari Search Field With NoSearchCorrect

One of the factors that makes the jailbreak community great is the spontaneous nature of creating simple, free tweaks. The developers in this community always seem to have open ears and are looking for ways to make our lives much easier and our devices more useful. Plus, they give us the freedom to customize and change-up our devices however we wish by giving us many different options. However, this following situation of spontaneousness is probably one the most unique occurrences of this "phenomenon" in the history of the jailbreak community.
Yesterday on Twitter, comex (@comex) was looking for a tweak that could disable autocorrect in the Safari search field. Although this request may not be something extravagant, some people other than himself probably would like a way to disable this themselves also. His search to find a tweak that did this was to no avail - there was simply nothing on Cydia or elsewhere that did this at this point.

Overhearing this issue, Filippo Bigarella (@FilippoBiga) got right to work and in under 20 minutes created a tweak that disables autocorrect in the Safari search field.

Other than what is stated above, NoSearchCorrect does exactly as noted. Although simple, this tweak could come in handy to people who find the same issue that comex mentioned a problem worth fixing. This tweak adds no new icons to your SpringBoard or a settings tab in the Settings.app. Below is a picture that shows when NoSearchCorrect is not installed (as the header picture shows when it is installed).

I dialogued with Filippo a little this morning and asked him a few questions about NoSearchCorrect:
JOSH: How long did it actually take you create NoSeachCorrect (as I estimated above)?
FILIPPO: Maybe 10 minutes or less (no joke, it is a really simple tweak).
JOSH: What firmwares is NoSearchCorrect compatible on?
FILIPPO I was able to test it on only iOS 4.x. It should also work on iOS 3.1.x from what I can see but I can't be entirely sure.
JOSH: Is this tweak applicable for the iOS 5 beta?
FILIPPO No because in iOS 5, autocorrect is already disabled in the search field for Safari.
If you'd like to give it a shot, you can download the .deb file directly off of Filippo Bigarella's GitHub page for free. Note that NoSearchCorrect has not been tested on firmwares lower than 4.x so be wary (and report if possible whether it works or not). And as Filippo noted, there is no need to install and use this tweak if you're on the iOS 5 beta because this issue is already fixed.
Keep up to speed with information on NoSearchCorrect and other projects by Filippo Bigarella (@FilippoBiga) by following him on Twitter.

These news updates are more boring after the next it seems. Modmyi is losing its luster, or maybe the Dev's just run out of things to make.

Well, this is great news for people like me who want to turn off autocorrect ONLY in Safari search. Not for you? That's fine; no need to poop on the fun.

Couple of things:
The Auto Correction toggle disables all auto correction everywhere. People don't always want that because they forget to turn it on/off or the prefer it to be on most of the time. Plus, this tweak is unique and has never been done before in this circumstance in the the manner that it does. For that reason, it is absolutely newsworthy. Also, some people may want a capability like this just for Safari and not everything. Your opinion does not reflect everyone's views. When I can turn Auto-Correction off to do the exact same thing its not news worthy.
Suggestions? I as well as the other writers on ModMyi are always open to suggestions.Get some good news.

This being an Apple site, and the news being limited to Apple, there sort of has to be something going on for there to be better news. Until then, we have things like this, called filler. If it helped a single person, then it is better than having nothing at all. Again, it seems to me like you could easily figure out that you would have no interest in the tweak merely by reading the title. Why did you continue to read on and flame? You have simply wasted more of your precious time by doing so. And... the format of the news still won't change, despite how strongly people like you seem to think ******** about it will somehow change something.

Great tweak. Stuff like this I would never think of. I would just put up with it. Yet the idea was made and implemented in minutes.
Keep up the great work modders!

Impressive(ten minutes), it's hard for me to take a shower that fast.
Awesome tweak for those who would need this. I for one like the auto search in safari and find it very useful. Thanks for the news Mr.Tuck

Nonsense. As others have noted, turning off Auto-correction doesn't do the exact same thing. I like auto-correct when I'm typing a text or email, but hate it in search. I am happy for the tweak to use before iOS 5 is out, debugged, and jailbroken.
As for the battles between Apple and Samsung, I'm interested in those too as an Apple shareholder. If you're not interested, you're only a click away from another site!

Amazing, thank you, that auto correct kills me every single time, it's not worth it to me though having to turn off auto correct entirely when I can just hit the little x, still this is awesome.
Also, about ALL the people that complain about every post not being new, almost everything that is on the front page is helpful in some way, whether big or small. The only thing that I can see about every post is that there is always one or two people complaining about how those awful people that spend their time writing stories for us, have committed a new crime. Damn writers
