Report Says First Week of September Marks Start of iPhone 5 Production

Production is about to commence on the 5th generation iPhone, says a new report from an Apple-related news site in Asia (Macotakara.jp). If the report is accurate, the iPhone 5 - or iPhone 4S, perhaps - will begin rolling off the assembly lines in about three weeks.

For most of the year, we've been hearing that early fall would bring with it the long-awaited release of the next-gen handset, a reality that eluded us this summer during Apple's traditional June iPhone roll-out period. But the latest news out of Asia at least endeavors to confirm that further delays are not on tap.

What's more, Japanese website Kodawarisan cites sources close to Apple who reveal that the big iPhone 5 reveal will take place at an Apple event on September 8th (but given that the date was presented in Japanese time, the actual date in the US would be September 7th).

This afternoon, I looked into the calendar at San Francisco's Moscone Center West, and Apple doesn't appear to have yet secured that date (9/7/11). Of course, supposed "clues" about Apple events based on that calendar's bookings and available dates have led us astray before. So just because we can't yet confirm a booking for Apple at its favorite venue on the aforementioned date doesn't mean that the iPhone 5 won't be unveiled at that location at that time.

Try pretending to book an all day/night event on that day. If they are blacked out, but it's not on their calendar, then a secret event is occurring that day, and that is most likely Apple's event.

Apart from the iP4 what other devices have been leaked? And after that fiasco I'm not surprised security is tighter.

I thought 5th September but it is looking more like the 7th if rumours are to be believed.

Buddy of mine works with a guy who does advertising for ATT in the San Fran area. Claimed the 5 is launching in October. I figured BS but I guess this might put it right on schedule.
