Thread: Jailbreak Tweak Adds Spedometer to iOS Maps

Default Jailbreak Tweak Adds Spedometer to iOS Maps

Tweaks for the iOS Maps app are somewhat of an anomoly, not in that they're unusual, but that it's unusual how few of them exist. However, a new jailbreak tweak adds something that probably should have been there from the start.

The Speed for Maps tweak adds a spedometer to the iOS Maps app. It's simple, effective, and lookes like it should be there. It even lets users select what units to measure their speed in. Not sure when feet per second, or meters per second would be necessary though.

The native iOS Maps app lags behind Android and their offering, but this does a little bit to catch up. Of course there are plenty of other navigation and maps applications with more functtionality than the native iOS Maps app, but why not pick up some of the slack where Apple slacked off. Who knows, maybe Apple will update the Maps app in the official release of iOS 5?

The Speed For Maps tweak is available in Cydia now. For free.

^^I am sure you know he means speedometer.
If it is taking a not so accurage GPS info to calculate the speed to me it is useless, waste of memory and CPU. I would not even call it a neat gadget to add on...

Maybe it's past tense on account of the lag... Tells you how fast you were going.

It's a nice little tweak, now if someone would come out with a turn by turn tweak for the maps. I do like in iOS5 maps now offers you 3 routes to chose when getting directions.

I couldn't find it either... Is it called "Speed for maps", or something else?

Speedos are pretty handy, but only if the map knows what the speed limit is and gives you a warning. Otherwise, the speedo in my car works just fine.

I so wish we'd get the Android version of Google Navigation on iOS. Knocks the socks off of any nav app that we have and it integrates great with web browsers and the maps app.

Yea spelled that way in the title and body... I'm not a spelling cop but I thought spedometer was like a combination speedometer/pedometer and was curious what it was.

In the modmyi app for iPhone, it is really annoying and costs a few dollars to remove. Or you just zoom out a little..
