74% of Verizon iPhone Buyers Waiting for the Next iPhone

Analyst Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray polled a small sample of 216 mobile phone users and found, among other things, that 74% of Verizon customers planning on buying an iPhone next are waiting to buy Apple's next-generation iPhone.
Only 53% of AT&T customers planning on buying an iPhone next are waiting for the next-generation model to come out. Munster also found an incredibly high retention rate amongst iPhone owners with 94% of current iPhone owners indicating they expect to buy another Apple handset. Only 47% of Android users expect to buy another Android device, and nearly 42% said they plan on switching to an iPhone.
Munster's survey was conducted during workdays in downtown Minneapolis and conducted over the span of week in varying public places. While the sample may be small and not entirely random, it provides a little insite into how much mobile phone users are anticipating Apple's next phone.
Source: Apple InsiderThis pent up demand for the next iPhone at Verizon may drive numbers higher than the 3.8 (million) units we are modeling Apple to sell through Verizon in the Sept. quarter. And our overall iPhone unit estimate of 22.0m in the Sept. quarter may prove to be conservative. - Munster

I would imagine 74% of any iPhone carrier buyers are waiting for the iPhone 5. The knowledge of Apple's annual update is very much mainstream now.

Seems a bit of a stretch to extrapolate the opinion of nearly 205 million subscribers combined between AT&T and Verizon out of a scant 216 mobile phone users to me.

I never believe these articles.
Sampling iPhone owners outside of Apple store compare to taking same survey at Best Buy or other electronic stores, basically they will manipulate how they get the numbers dependent on what they want the article to say.

LOL @ The iPhone5 being the iPhone4(S). i'll wait till 2012 when the REAL 4G iPhone comes out & those whom have THIS years So called iPhone5. When the Next Gen iPhone comes out people whom bough the iPhone5 will end up spending MORE to get the Next Gen & please don't tell me you can upgrade every year cause it doesn't work like that, it's every 18months...& it's not a Discounted Price like what you WOULD get if ya waited..lol, BUT..you Go ahead and Get it Now..lol

It's not a scam, it's clever marketing by Apple; capitalizing on those who must always have the "latest and greatest" gadget out there. As long as there are people willing to buy a new generation iPhone every year, Apple will come out with a new generation every year.
Also subsidized upgrade pricing is through the carrier, not Apple.

As per new survey a significant number of Verizon customers are waiting for Apple's fifth-generation iPhone, rather than buying the currently available iPhone 4.

Has anyone else ever gotten the feel that Verizon iPhone users got left out when they got the iPhone 4? Maybe some of those who are waiting are waiting because they hope that with the new iPhone on Verizon, the quality of service they receive will be better.
ATT / Verizon
Voice&Data: Yes / No
Software Updates: All of Them / Few, Far Between and overdue
Unlocked Devices?: Yes / No
You get the point of what I'm trying to say but as an At&t ip4 user, I feel bad for my friends who have the Verizon iPhone and aren't able to receive my calls because they're streaming Pandora with their extinct Unlimited Data plans

Verizon iPhone 4 has the same features as the AT&T iPhone 4. Verizon is the better network though.
