WSJ Bucks September Rumor and Proclaims October iPhone 5 Release

On Monday, the Wall Street Journal's "All Things Digital" put a blockade between Apple fans and the longstanding rumor that the iPhone 5 will drop in September. According to the very reliable John Paczkowski, we're all in for "an October surprise." Paczkowski believes the tenth month on the calendar will bring with it the launch of Apple's next-gen iPhone.
Paczkowski quotes one source saying: “I don’t know why AT&T’s calling for all hands on deck those weeks, but it’s not for an iPhone launch." Although any news at this point of a further wait for the iPhone 5 comes as a blow to eager would-be iPhone 5 buyers, Paczkowski still hasn't ruled out an August or September unveiling of the device.Sources with knowledge of the situation say reports claiming AT&T has blacked out employee vacations during the last two weeks of September in preparation for the retail debut of the next iPhone are misinformed.
If you're wondering, despite earlier reports hinting at a significant re-design of the iPhone in the next-gen model, the source conferring with All Things "offered no details" on the device’s design. Still, virtually all analysts and supply chain insiders maintain that an A5 processor, Qualcomm dual mode GSM/CDMA baseband, and an eight-megapixel camera are all on tap for the refresh.

I'm hoping for a design like the rendering above, with a curved metal back, similar to iPad 2, yet still retaining the flat sides (easier to hold IMHO).

If it's not announced at Apple's, usually iPod themed, September event then I'll be very very surprised. Frankly Apple are already many months behind the competition in terms of phone hardware.

And yet the iPhone 4 is still selling like hotcakes!
The phone still renders faster than the competition, the screen quality is still far superior to the competition, take better pics and video than the competition (unless you want 3D but I doubt the next gen iPhone will support that either). Apple mas as well milk this thing as long as they can and release it right around the time fully subsidized upgrades are available.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

I'd prefer a regular home button like we have now. Capacitive buttons are easier to break.

I think Steve should pull a fast one and trick up iPhone 5 buyers with an unexpected early release.....I mean EARLY.
Get on the mic during a news conference and announce....
"Introducing the new iPhone 5, available for purchase................in 20 minutes. GO!"
And then watch the chaos ensue.

This.
I honestly have never understood everyones obsession with hardware specifications. They mean NOTHING. A 10Ghz processor is not necessarily faster than a 1Ghz processor. A 10 MP camera does not necessarily offer more detail than a 5 MP one.
There are MUCH more important things aside from the physical hardware specs. How does the device auctually perform? Thats ALL that matters. I don't care whats being done to make it happen, it can have 5MB of RAM and a 100Mhz CPU, just make it work very well.
