Schematic of Reported iPhone 5 Case Turns Up Online

If the folks at MobileFun are correct in their assertions, what you're looking at above is an image (a schematic, to be exact) of a forthcoming iPhone 5 case. If accurate in its design we can deduce a few interesting things about the design of the next-generation Apple iPhone.

As previously rumored, the case design pictured above reflects a new, more curved back for the iPhone 5 - not unlike the moderately curved back on the second-generation iPad. Also apparent from the above design is the long-standing suspicion that the refreshed iPhone will bring with it an edge-to-edge screen.

As always, we take these reports with a grain of salt. Still, more and more evidence is mounting to suggest that the iPhone 5 design will not be an almost spot-on match to to the iPhone 4 design as initially and widely rumored.

As MMi reported yesterday, all the latest insider accounts confirm that the iPhone 5 will make its market debut in September, although an August announcement and demonstration of the 5th generation device by Apple isn't out of the question by a long-shot.

You obviously haven't felt the new iPod Touch or iPad 2. Both have superior designs than the brick-like iPhone 4.

So how exactly are you supposed to fit a case with any legitimate protection on a phone with an edge-to-edge screen without it interfering with the "Q" and "P" keys on the keyboard in Portrait mode or the Spacebar in Landscape mode?

I hope Apple tweaked the keyboard to where those buttons aren't nearly impossible to press with a case that has raised edges like the Otterbox Defender and the AGF Ballistic HC case.

I think they'll do away with the button and make it a touchpad. Maybe it's wide so you can do a slide to unlock on the touchpad itself.

Yeah I have and prefer the i4's design over any of those. Now would I want an iPad with the i4 design? No, of course not but in a phone......hell yeah.

I would be fine with a back simillar to the iPad 2's unibody back but if it's the same plastic I'll be VERY disappointed. IMHO the i4 is by far the best design as far as looks, feel and over all quality. No matter what it looks like I will of course be picking it up on pre-order but I have my fingers crossed for a non plastic back.

I think this is going be just as it was with 3GS, everyone expected front facing camera and new design etc.. And "all" we got was a new chip and video recording (better camera).

Edge to edge screen will look UGLY unless Apple are using AMOLED so when the phones in standby you can not see where the screen panel is. So its ALL black.

I have an iPhone 4 and I love the design except the back glass. Make the screen bigger and that's it. Faster. That's it. No design change...again.
