First Third-Party iOS 5 Widget: UISettings

With the ability for widgets in iOS 5, there has been a lot of buzz to whether developers will be able to create custom widgets and market them for the iOS software. Regardless of whether Apple restricts this capability from stock iOS, the jailbreak community has stepped it up a notch. The first widget for the Notifications Center, UISettings, is currently in alpha and on Cydia via an alternate repo.

The creator, qwertyoruiop (@qwertyoruiop), which we had the opportunity of interviewing for Behind The Code, released this tweak not even a day after the redsn0w tethered jailbreak for iOS 5 was released. UISettings, in essence, incorporates SBSettings in a more interface flowing fashion. Due to the swipe gestures in iOS 5, it makes it difficult for SBSettings to be placed as an activator gesture. Some of the features that UISettings has currently are:
- Brightness toggle
- Power
- Reboot
- Respring
- Volume
Another added feature is having the ability to theme. This documentation gives you information on how to theme UISettings: Theme UISettings
Although there are only basic features at this current time, qwertyoruiop is planning on releasing an update very soon. Follow him on Twitter for more information about upcoming work with UISettings.
EDIT: 6/11/11 8:21 AM PST: qwertyoruiop has released a new version of UISettings to his repository.

Man, if the the jailbreaking community could get rid of the boring sb settings and just put everything in sb settings into this new notification center, that would be sweet! and more efficient.... Cuz I really dont want to pull up sb settings any different way because I'm already so used to swiping down, so combining the two would be amazing!!
I just hope UI Settings will include everything sb settings did, and make it so devs can add-on their custom toggles too. This has soo much potential

We should probably keep in mind that Apple has given us an 'App Store' and not a 'functionality store'.

According to what they say on twitter right now, their server is down, hence the time out when adding the source

It seems as it already does. Weird cause it wasn't working yesterday. I guess they updated it this morning or something. So far I know that TetherMe and FakeOperator work, but they don't appear in the settings app.

I hope Apple makes the notification screen with widgets included available on the lock screen.
