iOS 5 Jailbroken (Tethered)
About two hours ago, MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd), a prominent developer and hacker for the iDevice, has confirmed that iOS 5 (Beta 1) is jailbreakable. The picture above shows MuscleNerd's iPod running Cydia. According to him, the jailbreak was done in conjunction with the limera1n exploit and a tethered boot. He mentioned that the boot rom exploit has not been patched and will work on iOS 5 final.
Although a tethered boot is aggravating as you have to connect your iDevice to your computer every time you reboot, the sign that jailbreaking is still capable so early on is a huge plus for jailbreakers worldwide. For those of us who are die hard jailbreak users and will for life, it is no longer a matter of will iOS 5 be jailbroken but when untethered will be available.

Be aware that just because it's able to be jailbroken does NOT mean Cydia will load or Mobilesubstrate is updated or any of your favorite jailbroken apps will work. Jailbreaking a beta is good for REAL devs that need to update their apps for 5.0 compatibility. There will not be an official jailbreak from the dev team until a public release of 5.0 comes out from Apple and Saurik won't push a mobile substrate update until after that happens.

a HUGE step in the right direction!
as long as the dev team can hack iOS, i will be happy. i dont know if i could update if the OS wasnt "jailbreakable". i'm still on 4.1..... when i get all of my cydia apps running perfect, its hard to update.

apple needs the jailbreak community...where do you think they get their ideas from....just look at the IOS5 updates....camera button on lockscreen, volume up to take pic...they will never stop us from jailbreaking...they will make it seem that way...but apple knows if there is no jailbreak community their phones will not be that popular...I know for my own sake ip4 is not that interesting without the jailbreak...

Glad to hear, hopefully if the Apple Gods are in my favor, I will be able to get an iPhone 4S on contract with T-Mobile in September, and be able to jailbreak right away with iOS 5. I love how hard the devs work to keep us happy!

Great shot MuscleNerd! The iPhone Dev Team is amazing. I'm serial, I think I will get back into the iPhone game, and just get the 250MB plan. Since my iPad has unlimited data, I can just use MyWi and leave Cellular Data off. Sorry, bit of a tangent. Go iPDT!
