Let's say I was a nefarious person and wanted to jailbreak someone's phone without them knowing it??

Its possible, but you need to make sure that you back it up first. Some app data might be lost though.

If your talking about iOS 5, make sure you find a sufficient guide on how to before hand b/c the details on downgrading iOS 5 are still murky

No... It would be on a 3Gs, iOS4, So if I jailbreak it, can you just delete the iSSH or Cydia icons that may load? What else would be visible to the user to show it was jailbroken?

Yes, just back up the iPhone before jailbreaking(left-click in iTunes, choose back up), and when you want to erase the jailbreak, go into iTunes again, restore it, and when asked about setting it up, choose the backup file you have from before.

Ok.. I think this is sooo awesome! Im leaving this comment as a sort of cry for help! lol
Im new at this jailbreaking thing. I have cydia on 4.2. and Ive gotten pretty good at it, but Im lost when it comes to the whole "tethered" and "untethered" and SSH stuff.. If someone could point me in the right direction that could help me learn more then it would be GREATLY appreciated! I want to be good at it for when iOS 5 comes out.

I jailbroke my iphone 4 with Green Poison, and bought a new laptop, and now my stuff wont transfer over... PLEASE HELP!! Sorry to sound like a newb.

So funny reading everyone's comments! Has anyone bothered to watch the keynote on the new features on IOS 5 and Icloud? Like someone mentioning why someones Ipodtouch has messaging on it? IOS 5 has new feature called Imessages that you can message to any other device running IOS 5, Ipad, Iphone, Ipodtouch, 3G or wireless. And when texting to another IOS 5 device the text bubbles will be blue, not green.

couldnt agree more. that being said, im surprised that one thing in the keynote that wasn't brought up was the split of ipod into music and videos
