Verizon Will Get Next iPhone Same Time as AT&T

Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo, in an interview with Reuters at the Global Technology Summit, confirmed among other things that Verizon would be getting the next iPhone at the same time as AT&T.

While few doubted the staggered release of the iPhone 4 would continue with the next iteration, hearing it from Shammo puts the issue to rest. Also, Shammo said the Verizon version of the next iPhone would work in as many countries as AT&t's iPhone. Again this seems to confirm reports that the next iPhone will be a world phone housing both GSM and CDMA radios.

Shammo did not confirm or deny a 4G long-term-evolution capable iPhone for the devices next iteration, but did say "I think it's a bigger issue for Apple than it is for us. Depending on where Apple plays, that's where we'll sell."

Amidst the recent controversy surrounding AT&t's data practices and the death of unlimited data plans, Shammo elaborated on the future of data pricing for Verizon. Shammo compared the evolution of talk-time pricing with that of data usage pricing.

"We had individual minutes for individual users. Then we eventually got to what we call family share where everyone in the family shares the same minutes," Shammo said. "I think it's safe to assume that at some point you are going to have mega-plans (for data) and people are going to share that mega-plan based on the number of devices within their family. That's just a logical progression."

While it may be a logical progression, and one telecom providers will argue is necessary to preserve their networks, capping data usage still sucks.

This big shared data pool idea is crap, just give us back our individual unlimited data. If that means beefing up your network to handle it then spend some of the money we pay you.

This was an easy one to guess. I'm sure this was the reason for us with AT&T not having the same annual date for the iPhone. Oh well maybe if AT&T starts losing sales to Verizon will they lower these damn plans. I pay almost $200 a month for two iPhones and that's not UNLIMITED plans.
