Report: Apple to Release iPhone 4S, Not iPhone 5 This September on Sprint, T-Mobile

A major story has broken that is quickly taking the tech blogosphere by storm. As reported within the hour by Forbes, analyst Peter Misek with the prominent firm Jeffries & Co. has come forward with claims that Apple's next generation iPhone will not be the iPhone 5 after all. Given the minor cosmetic changes we've all anticipated, the refreshed touchscreen handset will be released as the iPhone 4S.
"According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support," Misek stated in a research note to investors. Misek also says that his sources confirm the iPhone's expansion to Sprint and T-Mobile, a move that will effectively make Apple's celebrated handset available on all four major carriers in the US. Apple‘s anticipated iPhone upgrade, however, isn’t likely to include LTE functionality.
"Industry checks indicate Apple will likely announce Sprint, T-Mobile, and China Mobile as new carriers." The "iPhone 4S" name hasn't been widely used to discuss the next-generation iPhone. But due to the now-obvious fact that next month's WWDC is all about iOS and not new hardware, it appears that the plan inside Apple is to release the slightly modified iPhone 4S this September.
As summer rapidly approaches, all signs, reports, and supposed leaks appear to corroborate what this late Friday report from Forbes has revealed. To read the full article, click here.

If there aren't many changes, I don't know if I'll upgrade or just wait for one to be released next summer..

Probably not. The name 4GS would be thrown around for that too. And 4G is barely developed worldwide. 4G would only benefit a small few.
If it has dual-core A5, 1GB RAM, 1080p video recording I might consider it. Probably no 4" Screen either :-(
I guess I could hold out for another year with my 3GS

Sounds pretty lame. Not sure if it would be worth upgrading from an iPhone 4, especially if it would take a long time to jailbreak. I hate non-jailbroken iOS

am i to guess the RAM isnt going to be upgraded for the new processor so apple can keep their cheep ***** "10 hours of battery life ( if the brightness is all the way down)" so im not getting this if the ram isnt upgraded for the new processor
what is a good processor if its bottlenecked by ram
pathetic apple doo$h-canoes

Hmmm. Another underclocked processor....."better" cameras that will probably offer no noticeable improvement over the existing model......"minor cosmetic changes" which means a screen probably .2" bigger so that the ppi can still be within the required density to classify it as a retina display........
Do not want!

This might actually be the first iPhone model I skip. I never run low on ram and there's no lag to speak of. The 5MP camera takes amazing pictures IMO and the screen resolution is perfect.

I'm about 99% sure that only a 4G LTE iPhone would make me upgrade.
Is it just me or is the source article just another "educated guess" by a big publicaiton writer? What's the difference between an "industry check" and any other unofficial (non-Apple) source, rumor, tipster, etc.?

The A5 chip is amazing as far as I've seen on the iPad 2 so this next iPhone will surely be incredible with speed and battery but with small improvements like this I don't think I would get it. I would definitely wait for the next one that will hopefully have 4G, a bigger screen and a better antenna design if it's not fixed in the next iPhone.

Remember not everyone has the iPhone 4 yet, just because a lot of you with it won't be upgrading doesn't mean everyone won't.
This is still a big deal to those of us with a 3GS.
With that said I still hold out hope they increase the screen size.
