I wouldn't worry about this just yet. They still have to work out the details of updates with AT&T and the over the air part will certainly tax the data network more than AT&T wants so I'm sure we have time. It would be great if AT&T gave us the option of opting out of over the air updates to preserve our data too.

I love your name...........Too bad its a PUN
How could we have Gigabytes in the "Cloud" when AT&T makes a fuss bout a little tethering?
Current android phones ( some more advanced then the behind the curve Iphone) have the OPTION to upgrade and even then you can download the update online as well as through 3g
A lot of people on here do not understand technology well do they?

Come on guys, I feel pretty certain these OTA updates would NOT be pushed out over a cell data connection. It would likely only happen when the phone is on an active wi-fi network, and it would likely do a pop-up notification asking if you want to d/l the updates. Or perhaps it would show up as an update when you go into the App Store or iTunes on the phone or whatever.
Some of y'all are reading too much into this.

I'm worried about the Jailbreak scene as well - however, there are a lot of brilliant people out there. I have no doubt someone will figure it out.

Yes but with chrome. You don't buy chrome you but the iPhone though. If they **** chrome up you won't be out of money they would. If apple fucks up then you would be out of money and they would most likely loose a lot of customers and people would go to android an just root it.
If apple dose go through with it it probably wont be perm because it wold most Lkely fail. And it wouldnt be the end of jailbreaking due to fact that someone would make a jailbreak
That dosnt need iTunes or make more jailbreakme type sites.
JAILBREAK WILL NEVER DIE!
Oh and also I'm sure at&t and Verizon won't allow it. They have to go through them. And it will cause drama l

Looks like they are taking advice from Android

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

this might be useful for jailbreakers.... if a update can download and install... why not a jailbreak like the jailbreakme pdf exploit?
also if this is going to happen, apple would need to ditch the "wipe phone clean apart from media and data and replace with new os" approach and move to wards "replace files that need replacing/upgrading"

This will be mostly wifi only..it's ok to have update over the air but battery will drain.I like the option but I prefer USB while I'm getting charged or plug to a AC wall while on wifi
