New Engineering Images Show iPhone 5 with Edge-to-Edge Screen

New images coming out of China claim to be “mold engineering drawings” that point to the next iPhone version having a larger edge-to-edge screen. Images like these are often used to create cases and accessories for new Apple products before they are announced or go on sale. Design mockups can then be created and tested so new products can then be ready to go on sale as soon as Apple releases a new device.

If these images do prove to be genuine then the iPhone 5 may not see a dramatic change in case design. Last month a purported iPhone 5 front bezel showing a larger edge-to-edge screen was discovered. The proportions of this component do not appear to be the same as the renderings discovered today, however.

Previous rumors also point to the iPhone 5 receiving a larger screen and the latest renderings do seem to support this rumor, as well. Apple has made design changes at the last minute on more than one occasion, however.

One image also suggests that a white iPhone 5 is also in the works. Hopefully, there won’t be the same productions delays that plagued the previous white version of the iPhone 4. If the white iPad is any indication, however, then the issues associated with manufacturing a white front seems to have been dealt with.

Although Apple has increased the resolution of the iPhone screen over the years, they have not increase the size of the screen beyond 3.5-inches. Rival smartphones already include larger 4-inch+ screens and Apple may find that they have no choice but to follow suit. I for one, would love to see the next iPhone come with a larger screen. Hopefully, Apple will be able to find a way to include a larger screen without dramatically increasing the size of the device. As it is now, my iPhone 4 already takes up enough room in my pocket.

I'm all for a 4" screen. The pixel density would still be high enough to make each pixel indistinguishable from normal viewing distance.

taking the measurement from 1 constant the home button one can get approximate size of this thing... I am too busy at work to figure this thing out plus from rough estimate the screen is too small, so I am not going to bother.

The current iPhone 4 design is perfect, screen is perfect for a mobile phone.

I'd rather Apple just keep on making the iPhone thinner.

bigger screen works and they can even increase the size of the phone especially if they can make the phone a lot thinner

I hope your kidding. i for one welcome a bit larger screen as long as the size of the phone stays the same, but not huge like some of these other phones 4.3 the those are BRICKS and look rediculous when held up to your head.

Well i wouldnt mind a bigger screen. I do wish the iphone were bigger in screen i dont care if its as thick as it is right now. Since the thickness on it is fine for me right now. Just screen is a bit to small. Bigger than 4 inches no way!!!

For me, the thickness of the iPhone 4 is fine, but the screen is a tad small...
Make it 4.3in, and I will buy it at d-day!

4 inch is as high as i want to go, a friend of mine has the 4.3 inch moto droid x and is too big. i think practicality of a phone/pda/smartphone is 4 inch for me.

i have looked at the moto defy that has a 3.7 inch screen and the phone size is smaller then the 3G iphone....so i think the current dimensions of the iphone 3g/4 should be able to accommodate and/or support a 4 inch screen easily

I have to agree, I would like a bigger iPhone screen. For work I was given an Evo. After being on this Evo for work all the time the iPhone feels tiny.

I really don't like my Evo too much; however, I love the size of the screen. If Apple desides to make the screen bigger, I'll jump all over it.
