iPhone 4 Unlocks Coming After 4.3 Drops: Dev-Team

The wait for an iPhone 4 unlock for iPhone 4s newer basebands has dragged on and on. Six weeks ago, MuscleNerd released the "official iPhone unlock statement," which is that the unlock won't be released until iOS 4.3 is out of beta. There's been very little news since then, but with 4.3 apparently on the verge of its official release, @MuscleNerd and Egyptian baseband superhacker @Sherif_Hashim have given encouraging signs that the unlock will be available by the deadline, with Sherif working on an exploit that unlocks both the 3.10.01 and 2.10.04 basebands and MuscleNerd targeting the newer 4.10.01 baseband for 4.3 beta 3.
The Dev-Team has been keeping a low profile as 4.3 works its way through beta, trying to avoid another cat and mouse game. Now iPhone users running any baseband later than 1.59.00 cannot unlock, and iPhone 3G/3GS users must use a ported iPad baseband 06.15.00 if they loaded 05.14.00. Fortunately, work seems to be in progress on all fronts, with Sherif Hashim reporting that he's found an exploit which apparently works for both 3.10.01 and 2.10.04, and MuscleNerd puzzling through a difficult situation with 4.10.01. He's having a hard time invoking the vulnerable commands he's found, but notes that he's found exploit vectors for both 5.14 and 5.15 iPhone 3G/3GS basebands... though iPhone 4, he says, is still top priority.
The combination of the difficulty of the task along with the desire to avoid revealing an exploit before the iOS update is released has led to the seemingly-interminable delay. There's renewed hope, though, that unlocks for all devices will be available when iOS 4.3 drops... which should be soon. Reports indicate that the gold master may be released as soon as Wednesday's iPad event.

Bad initial report. It makes it look as if the exploit for the unlock for 4.10.01 would be different than the one used for 2.10.01. This is not the case

Way to read too much into Sherif Hashim's tweet!
He doesn't work on the unlocks, MuscleNerd does. All Mr. Hashim did was find an exploit that crashes the baseband and he's saying it applies to both 3.10.01 and 2.10.04. This does NOT mean that MuscleNerd was able to use the exploit to develop a working, stable unlock solution or that it will even be released anytime in the near future. Until MuscleNerd says otherwise (which he has not), there is no ETA for the unlock or any proof it even exists.
Remember, "after 4.3" means anytime between the release of 4.3 and armageddon.

i love what the Devs do for us jailbreakers and unlockers but you have you have to admit the last "unlock" was something to be desired as it used an unwanted baseband from the iPad firmware. I really hope this is an ultrasn0w update this time. (even tho i dont need an unlock anymore) Either way thanks MuscleNerd and Sharif!

I can wait for all baseband unlock. As long as they get all the codes and packages together and right I can wait.
MucleNerd is not saying anythin because those that like to be pushy and ask everyday when you tell them there is a unlock " When is it going to be released ", " Release it greedy what are you waiting for ". Kind of what pushed GeoHot away at some point. This way he can work in peace without being annoyed by those that don't do sh**t but annoy the dev-team.Last edited by delusion950; 02-28-2011 at 12:37 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
