Apple Upgrading iPhone 5 with 4-inch Screen and A5 Processor

The iPhone 4 is starting to look a little short next to the competition. Rumors coming out of Asia today indicate that Apple may be increasing the screen size of the next iPhone model to 4-inches. This would put the iPhone in line with other smart phones currently on the market such as, the Droid X2 and Evo 4G, both of which have a 4.3-inch screen.

According to a Digitimes report, “The component suppliers noted that the production lines for Apple's next generation iPhone have begun testing, and Apple is interesting in expanding the screen size to 4-inches to support the tablet PC market as the vendor only has a 9.7-inch iPad in the market.” Digitimes has a spotty track record, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if Apple did release an iPhone with a larger screen in the near future.

There are also reports that Apple will upgrade the iPhone 5 to an A5 processor and that it will be based on the ARM Cortex A9 processor. The next version of the iPad is not expected to use this chip, however, but instead is expected to use an enhanced version of the A4 processor.

With rumors continuing to swirl around the possibility of an iPhone nano, it looks as if Apple may be planning to expand the iPhone line considerably this year. Apple may not be expected to introduce any new products this year, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t hard at work improving existing product lines. The next time you upgrade your iPhone, you may have a few new options to choose from other than memory capacity.

This just gets old Wiley. What the heck r u trying to tell us??? First, you go and disillusion everyone with your "smaller iPhone idea", that will never happen. And, you only reported it cuz Bloomberg did!

Then, you tell us apple is making a bigger iPhone. It's possible; but again, only cuz someone else published it! U even said that source had a spotty record. But u know what Wiley, I think you have a spotty record. In your next article, plz tell us what ur trying to say. Plz.

If they want to compete with those p.o.s Android phones, they have to release a new iPhone this year.

A 4 inch screen sounds like a bad idea to me. idon't want my iPhone to be the size of an iBrick! That would drive me iNsane!

Pointless news but it's better than no content and and iPhone that big would be stupid! My mate had htc Desire hd and while it was nice my thoughts were " I'm not walking around with that".

4 inches sounds fine by me. I'm getting so sick and tired of straining my eyes to read the tiny a** text even on it's 3.5 inch "retina" display. And zooming in and out of paragraphs isn't any better either. Probably why I do most of my reading on the iPad anyway. I've been waiting for this upgrade. Hopefully more than just a mere rumor.

I love the huge screen of the Evo 4G. Would be awesome to see that on the iPhone.

I hate the evo 4g. It's huge. It's bulky and wide. It's like carrying a thin piece of brick in my hand. Feels weird in my pocket. Itd be nice if they made the home button smaller and more toward the bottom and put the speaker and camera more towards the top. An use that extra space. I like the size of the phone now.

On another note: all you people whining about these rumour posts, simply don't read 'em. It's the prerogative of the writers on this site to write what *they* wish to write about, which may not always be what *you* wish to read about. Or at the very least, if you feel you are being forced to read every article at gunpoint, you are surely not being forced to also write a whiny comment?

I think I'll wait till the last quarter to buy any Apple product this year...I'm not into duplicates or advertised postponed technology. From most rumors/so called credible reports, Apple is to release 2 iPads(iPad S and iPad 2 or 3) Apple has already released a year old phone on a different network, will introduce a smaller iPhone? Will finally start selling the white iPhone FINALLY! Not to mention the iPhone 4gs or 5....like i said patience is a virtue :]
I want to weed out all of the circus acts and get the final products for both iPad and iPhone...soo EXCITED!!!

If Apple can increase the screen size but keep the actually phone the same size (height and width wise) then I'm all for it. But without removing the home button.
