This is done in the four churches of my parish managed by two priests.

Churches that are in serious debt obviously have been badly managed or have suffered a significant drop in attendance, which many have. Again, I can only speak for Irish Churches, majority of the weekly offerings go to the upkeep of the Church buildings and parochial house(s), then one weekend at Easter and one at Christmas goes to the priest themselves, to pay for food, petrol and whatever other expenses for the year, so they only get two pay-days a year. I really don't know what your Church spends its money on to be 2million in debt.

Also, many would see replacing sacramental wine with grape juice as blasphemous, would you replace the eucharist with doritos too? It's probably the cheapest cost a church has.
No I'm not saying they should, but they that they would if they only wanted to make money. It may have been 200,000 in debt, that sounds more reasonable. I'm not really sure. But either way it doesn't seem that the Catholic Church exists only to make money. Where people get that is beyond me.

I don't see how they could be in this kind of debt, unless they had to pay in a law suite, like many other catholic dioceses have had to in the past years....
Don't go there. Anyway it may have been 2 hundred thousand, I'll have to check again.

How? As far as I see it's only provides reference to see where you have sinned. Did you even read the first paragraph?

Actually, the app isn't for confessing if you read the article or even looked at the picture, it's for examining yourself to see where you have sinned. It actually sounds pretty useful.
I wasn't directing that comment towards you. I was just throwing out my thoughts! :-)

I believe, we can examine ourselves w/out the need for an app or a person or even a church. The latter two help us to see more about ourselves but the ONLY requirement in all of this is knowing God is always there.

You are right, they aren't confessing to the app. I was thinking they were in my head when I wrote it. It does say as a reference before you confess.

2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
    5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

It's still a handy reference though. I'm not saying anyone needs the app, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

By the way, I'm not going to answer questions that I already answered anymore. This isn't aimed at the person I'm quoting.

I think the whole concept is insane. The thought of this just makes me feel guilty.

Luckily that hasn't happened yet. I was worried something might spark with one of CaptainSmooth's comments though.

I gotcha and I agree. Its always a plus when the Word is being spread!

This app does not state that you confess to it nor does it claim that you 'have' to use it in order to examine yourself. It is a reference...that's all.

People, unfortunately, are so consumed with quick-fixes that they lose site of what is Biblically acceptable and what isn't. 'People' nowadays 'can be' so naive and actually think an app will wash away their sins! That's hilarious (and ridiculous) to me! It's like the portable heater app or fingerprint scanner app in the app store. C'mon...r u seriously thinking it's real!

Everybody DOES realize that any money the catholic church isn't using for rennovations etc. is going to hospitals and charities right?

I can't give you exact numbers, but the Catholic church is one of the largest single organizations to fund as many hospitals, homes, programs for the homeless, etc. And they have thousands of missions and schools across the world. Even if some are funded privately.

Just trying to prove A point about money here. Everything else has already pretty much been answered.
    God Bless

Thanks for the excellent point that I missed. I can't believe I didn't mention that!

Wow now the catholic church is trying to reach out to young boys through their iPhones. I wonder if there is a hidden GPS Tracker built in to the app, so the priests know where to go

I bet the number of Catholic priests that are child molesters is just as low as any other denomination

And it's not "The Catholic Church", it's one guy. Just like the sick child-molesting priests are just individuals.

    Lol x 10

Everyone chill out. I just talked to the Easter bunny and he said he talked to Jesus and Jesus said this app is perfectly acceptable.

Why would you even bring that up?? That's ridiculous and uncalled for!
