Are you letting go of the home button during the process of getting into dfu?

Just click jailbreak and follow the instructions. They will work fine even without the device being off.

Would I still need to hold home? Or when do I let go of home?

You must run the tool in Windows XP compatability (just like you had to for redsn0w). Right click the .exe choose properties, then Compatability, check the box "Run this program in compatability mode for:" and select Windows XP SP3. Hit OK

Then right click on the same .exe, choose run as Administrator

    Just untethered my ipad!
