Target Offers iPhone Trade-In Program

AppAdvice is reporting that tomorrow Target will be offering trade-ins on the beloved older iPhones for customers who are hoping to upgrade to the iPhone 4.
Target will offer $100 for the 16GB iPhone 3G, and depending on the condition, up to $200 for a 32GB iPhone 3GS. Terms state that you must sign up for a 2yr contract with AT&T.
Customers interested will only have 1 week to apply for this program, but as anyone else in the community would agree, your going to see much more return for your old iPhone by selling it privately or through eBay.iPhone 3G or 3GS trade-in – In order to take advantage of this in-store only offer, guests must trade in a working iPhone 3G or 3GS and sign a two-year contract with AT&T. Guests may receive up to $100 credit for an iPhone 3G 16GB and up to $200 credit for an iPhone 3GS 32GB, offering great cost savings on a new iPhone 4 16GB priced at $199 or an iPhone 4 32GB priced at $299.

Yeah I work at Target and the Mobile Solutions team said that they'd give me $140 for my black 16GB 3Gs. Not bad I guess..but whenever I do upgrade, I want to keep my 3Gs. So I think I'll pass.

What a rip off. You can easily sell it for $400. I sold two 16GB 3G's yesterday for $750. I mean, for those who have no other option, fine. Still I wouldn't do it.

Most people don't want the hassle of listing/shipping on eBay. They're afraid of scams or don't really know how to list stuff. I agree the phones are worth a lot more than you'll get for them but some people are cool with that. Its funny how desperate for quick cash people are these days.

Huge rip-off if you ask me!?
I am overwhelmed by the fact that most people are looking at this on a positive point of view, this is such a rip off. Seriously iphone 3gs 32gb $200!!!????, why is it that everyone turns a blind eye to the fact that the phone is worth much more than that.

If we were talking about a difference of $20 or so, I'd agree about the hassle thing... but I just upgraded my wife today to an iPhone 4 at an AT&T store. OTD for a 32GB iPhone 4 was $320. I'm seeing completed listings on eBay for 3G phones from $250 to $400 depending on condition, accessories and JB/unlock state. With the two JuicePacks, cases, original box/material, I should be able to easily score on the upper end of that range.
So we're talking about a difference of DOUBLE what they are offering. I think an extra $200 is worth the hassle.
And for anyone who doesn't, I will be happy to take that working, in good condition, iPhone 3G or 3Gs off your hands for $110 -- that's $10 more than Target will give you!

You get stung in America on IPhones, in UK got my ip4 16gb for free on 2yr contract, unlimited data 1000mins an 500txts for £50 ($80) a month. Get around £180 for a 16gb 3GS too.

Iv sold iPhones for a lot more than that, but I know people like my mom or my sister would never figure out how to sell somthing on eBay. This would work great for people like them.

rip off. sold my 3g 16gb that was in ok condition (had a cracked charging port) for $180 on craigslist. it's just sad how people get taken advantage of because they don't know what their stuff is actually worth.
