A must have, I ordered one and can't wait for it to come. Will be awesome for boating, I used to slip my sim card in a old Nokia for beach/boating. Love it.

Makes me wonder how the cell reception is under water

Not too good after about 10 feet with a nokia, and five feet w/ iphone 3, 3g, and 4. I had an old Siemens phone that had reception at about 10 feet, but that is about it. (yes, close to a tower)
Always double zip locked and taped. The old nokia 6250 is good to 1 atm. But you are not supposed to send text messages with it under water ?!?

Zip loc bags are not completely airtight so what makes you guys think they will be watertight?

This is probably only useful for the water protection otherwise simply keeping it wrapped up in a towel or something is sufficient to keep sand off of it.

For 40 bucks though I'd have to be spending a lot of time near water.

If you DO dive alot, a hard case is your best friend. this is mostly to keep splash water off your phone while boating and hanging by the H2O.
