Dev-Team Confirms Untethered redsn0w for Windows

Hello,

It looks like the windows version file is there on greenp0ison it is just getting hammered hard on the website right now.

Excuse the question, I've been out of touch lately. Does this version jailbreak a 3gs old bootrom? Or only an I4? There seems to be so much misinformation, that I just want to be sure to get it right.

I have shsh blobs on file and currently am at 4.0.1 JBme.com. I want to get to 4.2.1. JB I don't care about the baseband or unlock at this time. Although I don't necessarily want to upgrade the baseband either, if it can be avoided.

If anyone can understand all of that perhaps you could advise me?

I just did this last night. I too was on 4.0.1. i also have a 3GS with the old bootrom and have blobs on cydia from 3.1.2 through 4.2.1+. you can actually look within this thread a couple pages back where x98car was helping me. i used redsnow v0.9.6rc8. i allowed itunes to update the firmware. then used the redsnow application to jailbreak it. that's it...and i am now at 4.2.1 untethered! just make sure you either have an app that backs up your cydia apps (cydia does have a new feature that stores your paid apps, although it was missing about 4 that i had paid for) or write down all your cydia apps so you know what to re-download and install. also, do a sync with itunes before so all your current apps, contacts, calendars, etc. are backed up. when the update was finished, when itunes asks, choose your last backup to restore all your contacts and calendars...not the "new phone" option, unless you want to set it up that way.

after the update and jailbreak, just do a sync then go get winterboard (if you use it) and all your cydia apps. all your paid apps will install without a problem. it was really quite painless. i only ran into one problem, but it was a user error and nothing to do with the update or redsnow.

From what I understand, the greenpois0n Windows version that is on their site is 5.2, not 5.3 that untether jailbreaks 4.2.1.

I had to run redsnow twice because it froze at exploiting lime rain. Otherwise it was just the process of backing up everything in iTunes

One question which I may have to post. I reinstalled ITunes 10 because Pc crash. I then moved iTunes folder to c: and synced with itunes. I backed up iPhone and went to 4.2.1 and jailbroke I also transferred all purchases from iPhone first.

None of the checks are checked for apps music vid tabs etc. If I check for example apps tab it wants to erase all of my stuff from phone. How can I make it sync my iPhone without putting the old setup back on my phone?

I believe you need to Authorize that PC. thats what happened to me. It did the same thing, once I Authorized it it worked fine.

Just wanted to throw this out there in-case anyone else runs across this issue: Was using Redsnow jailbreak on my Mac, and it kept giving me an error, so I switched to my PC and the first time I ran the Windows version it froze at the "exploiting limerain" screen. ran it again, froze, ran it again AFTER switching USB ports, and worked flawlessly. Not sure why it didn't work properly on my Mac, but whatever, it's done.
