Jailbreaking was deemed legal to cellular devices that can make out going calls. This is probably possible on the PS3. "It does everything" right?
The case will be thrown out of court.

I would so say that in court haha nah
all i can say is: Leave him alone and come on Sony stop acting like kids. Your ps3 does everything right? Then it can be hacked, broken, surf the web and maybe.... allow the installation of uummm let see....... pirate games? uumm nope oh okay then it doesnt do everything?
see sony!!!!! Geohot is trying to show the world that your ps3 can (almost) do everything!!!
they should hire him and make him do their security next time!!!!

Sony can't possibly sue this guy. He bought the PS3 and he could do whatever he wanted with it. This is not illegal. Sony should leave this guy alone. He's a GENIUS. LEAVE HIM ALONE....

I jailbroke my ps3, and geohot.com SPECIFICALLY says that he does NOT condone piracy and on top of that, the CFW (custom firmware) he released has the lv2diag.self locked so there is no way to enable piracy using anything he has given us! But there is a group working on exploiting lv1diag.self to enable piracy but they aren't even assoiated with geohot and they aren't mentioned in the suit!
reference: geohot.com, the PS3 modding community i'm in c0dereality.com, and the auctual papers filed with the court.

Wow. Who poo pooed on Sony's Cornflakes? I guess GeoHot did.
This is an extreme over reaction by a money hungry corporation. I bought and paid for the $399 device...and if I want to install a program I "homebrewed" then I should be able to do this if I want.
As long as I don't install illegal software ans/or programs to play pirated games...then suck it Sony!!
The only thing I would love my PS3 to do is play video through AirPlay from my iPad. Basically have a "Apple TV app" that makes the PS3 do what the Apple TV does.

Perfect example on why I hate anything sony...
Better yet, someone make a save Geohot theme! No confundas mi personalidad con mi actitud. Mi personalidad es quien soy yo, mi actitud depende de quien seas tú.

What Geohot has released is no different than iPhone Jailbreaking tools.
Steve Jobs should send an email to Jack Tretton, and just say,
Been there, done that, lost, now STFU.
All the best,

There have been xbox (original) mod chips and all that which in fact "promote" piracy but I dont recall any major lawsuits and you can still buy them.
So why attack a brilliant young mind that with a little help from another cracked Sony's weak *** security.
It all boils down to Sony being embarrassed it was so easily defeated. Didn't he even offer to help show Sony what they "should do" to combat this stuff. Somebody hire the kid and sue Sony on his behalf for defamation and false accusations.

You know you've made it big when SONY is filing court orders against you, damn.

I understand Sony's position. It's like Geo slapped a sleeping dog too many times and now it's barking. I think the MOST they can do is drain his bank account defending himself if this escalates. But I agree this is covered under the new ruling.

Shame on Sony...
It seems the more laws we have, the less freedoms we can enjoy.
In this case...the law to protect digital copy writes now strips a man of his right to use a Sony PS3 (legally anyway)
At least Microsoft doesn't file restraining orders against hackers...at least to my/our knowledge...but correct me if I am wrong.
