Verizon Prepping Major iPhone PR Push That May Come at Android's Expense
Just in case there is anyone left on the planet who didn't hear about yesterday's Verizon iPhone announcement, the nation's largest mobile operator is preparing what could also be the nation's largest marketing campaign to herald the Apple smartphone's arrival on Verizon. And according to reports published Wednesday, the effort may ultimately serve to impact Android devices most severely.
Shaw Wu, the analyst with Kaufman Bros. who correctly predicted Tuesday's major announcement that rocked the mobile world, revealed in a note to investors Wednesday that mega "marketing muscle" is being put behind the forthcoming Verizon iPhone, which will become available to current Verizon customers February 3rd and everyone else seven days later on February 10th. Wu says the Verizon advertising effort will largely come at the expense of competing smartphones running Android.
"On its homepage, [Verizon] is already highlighting the iPhone 4 and iPad as flagship products with not much else in sight," Wu observed, noting that Android is about to confront its first "true test" in the mobile space now that a new iPhone rush has begun. If Wu's predictions are correct, Android users currently on Verizon may flock to the Verizon iPhone as pure iPhone momentum sweeps across the line of sight for millions of Verizon customers.

I know one thing, Verizon investors don't like this move. Their stock dropped a few bucks. Overall, things aren't looking good.
Some people are going to get fired if that network doesn't hold up.
Well, it's back up .42%. That's probably due to all the PR and positive press so far. February is going to be an interesting month.

I hope this brings a lot more developers to the iOS operating systems ad higher quality apps... But with that I'm sure it'll bring way more low quality apps... I'm excited for what's to come with the phone and operating system but I'll keep my Att contract with my 18month upgrades and simultaneous voice and data abilities! Good luck Verizon... Though I hope their network crashes just so I can laugh at my Verizon friends

Just when the race between the iOS and Android was getting close Apple does this. It will definitely help them take the cell phone market more than they already have.

With the iPhone being on Verizon's network...iOS 4.3 should be out too right?
I hope things go well with their launch.
Haha, iOS 4.3 beta 1 was also released today (I think).

I would hope that verizon pushing marketing for the iPhone, this is huge for them. This will probably out apple way ahead for smartphone share of the market nowYou don't like the iPad because you don't have one!

Why would anyone want to downgrade from an Android 4g phone that also has Flash Player to a slower iPhone that only works with 3g and doesn't support Flash Player? It makes no sense to me. Lets pay more money and lock myself in for another 2 years with a phone that is already behind the curve just so I can say I have an iPhone. What idiots!
