Jailbreaking Apple TV 4.1.1 with Seas0nPass
The developers at FireCore have released Seas0nPass, a tethered jailbreak for the second-generation Apple TV running 4.1.1 (iOS 4.2.1). Like PwnageTool or Sn0wBreeze, Seas0nPass creates a custom IPSW that gets loaded on your device. The tool is extremely simple and easy to use, automating all the steps except actually entering DFU mode (like most JB tools, it will guide you through that as well). It will even download the stock IPSW from the internet for you.
Seas0nPass is free and open source: you can download the source code from Github.
Make sure you have a microUSB cable before beginning.
How to Jailbreak Apple TV with iOS 4.2.1 using SeasonPass:
Step 1: Download Seas0nPass and extract it from the zipfile.
Step 2: If the Apple TV is not already jailbroken, click on 'Create IPSW.' Seas0nPass will download the iOS firmware and create a custom IPSW.
Step 3: When IPSW creation is complete, you will get a screen that says "Waiting for device to enter DFU mode." Connect the microUSB cable to the Mac and to the Apple TV and hold down the 'Menu' and 'Play/Pause' button for 7 seconds to enter DFU mode.
Step 4. iTunes will open automatically and prompt you to restore.
Step 5: Once the restore is done, the Apple TV must be disconnected from your computer in order for the tethered boot process to work correctly. Afterwards, you proceed using the same steps you will use every time you boot the Apple TV.
How to Boot Tethered with Seas0nPass
Step 1: Open Seas0nPass and select the 'Boot Tethered' option.
Step 2: You;ll get a screen that says "Waiting for device to enter DFU mode." Connect the microUSB cable to the Mac and to the Apple TV and hold down the 'Menu' and 'Play/Pause' button for 7 seconds to enter DFU mode.
Step 3: When you get the "Tethered boot complete!" screen, disconnect the microUSB cable and connect the HDMI cable.
And that's it! Happy hacking...

F.Y.I.......The people who work on this have nothing at all to do with the jailbreak scene. seasonpass is software that lets you install ATVflash on an already jailbroken Apple TV 2G. As for the 'unlock' question, you are hijacking a thread that has nothing at all to do with iPhone, and why bother even getting an iPhone if you was not willing to run it on the network it was intended for, and then have the nerve to whine when people who have other lives apart from spending it on unlocking/jailbreaking solutions. Get a phone which is suitable for your sim, or shut up and wait like everyone else............Its that simple!

Firecore make the software which allows browsing/NAS streaming etc through your apple tv. I'm waiting for an untethered solution before bothering with though....

Ok, well, I'm new to the AppleTV - I'm slightly unsure on the boot tethered part... in that, I'm assuming once its plugged in and powered up, and you just use the Sleep option - all is well?
Do you only have to "boot tethered" if for some reason you unplug the device?do'h

It allows you to install the atvflash black & also you can install a PLEX client that allows for streaming from a PLEX media server ie. Your Mac or PC. I'm running my ATV2 on the latest f/w and had trouble installing PLEX b/c one of the sites was down. I had to search for a way to SSH PLEX onto the ATV.

what about boxee, NHL gamecenter, and MLB TV? is that available?

There really is nothing that special about the jailbreak for ATV2 yet. I can see big things happening in the future but it seems only a handful of people are even interested in developing JB apps for it. With aTV Flash (Black) you get a new dashboard screen to mod and can set up custom screen savers. They also give you a crappy internet browser that runs your ram out of memory every time you try to load a web page. Plex doesn't work for s**t and last.fm crashes a bunch.
Seas0npass makes the JB process a lot easier than it was before which is nice but for those of you considering jailbreaking your ATV2, I'd say wait on it till it's worth it.Peace out to the homeboys puffin on the hydro

I have a pc with a truckload of streaming programs, but since plex is mac only, the jb does squat for me.
I really, really wanted to replace my popcorn hour with an appletv, but with all of this, I think I just need to give up and go towards the boxee box.
